Game Recap: St. Lucie Mets Comeback Bid Falls Short in 4-3 Loss to Jupiter



Lin goes 1 for 3, reaches base 3 times in organizational debut 

PRESS RELEASE JUPITER, Fla. (April 22, 2022) – The St. Lucie Mets ninth-inning comeback bid fell just short in a 4-3 loss to the Jupiter Hammerheads on Friday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. (Box Score)

The Mets entered the final inning trailing 4-1. An error on Jupiter third base baseman Angeudis Santos on a Alex Ramirez ground ball led to a run that made it 4-2 and opened the door for more runs. The next batter Justin Guerrera popped a ball into shallow right field that was misplayed into a RBI single that made it 4-3 and advanced Ramirez to third base as the tying run. 

However, Jupiter reliever Josh Roberson struck out Shervyen Newton looking for the second out and then retired William Lugo on a grounder to first to end the game. 

Jupiter scored a run in the second inning and three runs in the third inning against Mets starter Mike Vasil to race out to a 4-0 lead. Osiris Johnson and Zach Zubia hit consecutive RBI singles in the third and Javeon Cody lifted a sac fly to make it 4-0. 

The Mets got a run back in the fifth inning on a bases-loaded fielder's choice grounder by Guerrera. 

St. Lucie reliever Luis Moreno gave the Mets a fighting chance. He pitched 5.0 innings of scoreless relief behind Vasil. Moreno scattered five hits, walked just one and struck out four. 

Vasil took the loss. He was charged with four runs on five hits over 3.0 innings. 

Jupiter starter Chris Mokma gave up one unearned run over 5.0 innings to get the win. In the four games of the series so far Jupiter starting pitchers have allowed one earned run and issued just one walk in 22 innings. 

Alex Ramirez went 1 for 4 to extend his hitting streak to 11 games to start the season. Newton went 2 for 5 with his sixth double of the year. 

Tzu-Wei Lin, signed by the Mets as a minor league free agent in March, made his organizational debut. The former Red Sox and Twin went 1 for 3 with a double and two walks. 

The Mets (8-5) and Hammerheads (7-6) play the fifth game of their series at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Saturday. First pitch is 6:00 p.m.
