Game Recap and Highlights: Ponies Rally Falls Short Against Patriots, Megill scoreless inning

Binghamton, NY – Down 4-2 in the ninth, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (21-31, 49-72) scored a run but fell to the Somerset Patriots 4-3 on Thursday night at Mirabito Stadium, snapping the Ponies season long five-game win streak.

Wyatt Young reached in the ninth on a walk and scored from second after a stolen base on Carlos Cortes' RBI single, cutting the Somerset lead to 4-3. Ronny Mauricio worked the count full and Carson Coleman earned the save by striking out Mauricio out to end the game.

Somerset (30-22, 74-47) started off fast taking a 1-0 lead after just two batters in the first. Anthony Volpe hit a triple then came around to score on Everson Pereira's RBI groundout. Brandon Lockridge capped off the inning with an RBI single. Lockridge also added an RBI single in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead and finished 3-5.

The two sides traded runs in the fourth as Oliver Dunn's double plated Mickey Gasper in the top of the inning and Rowdey Jordan's hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded made it a 3-1 game. Binghamton cut the Somerset lead to 4-2 in the sixth on Hayden Senger's RBI groundout.

New York Mets pitcher Tylor Megill highlighted the Ponies bullpen with a perfect sixth striking out the side. Hunter Parsons worked out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh then the duo of Joe Zanghi and Manny Alvarez kept Somerset in check.

The Ponies will continue their series against Somerset. Friday's game is scheduled for 7:05 PM with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.

POSTGAME NOTES: Young and Luke Ritter had multi-hit games… Ritter extended his hit-streak to seven games… Young reached base four times... The Ponies bullpen threw four shutout innings.
