MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (7-9) exploded for six runs in the seventh inning, which led to a 7-6 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Wednesday night at Delta Dental Stadium.
The Fisher Cats got out to a 2-1 lead on a sacrifice fly from Riley Tirotta and an RBI double from Phil Clarke. The Ponies got their first run on Wyatt Young's solo home run in the third inning. It was Young's second home run of the year.
With the Ponies down 2-1 with one out in the top of the seventh, Jeremiah Jackson tied the game with a solo homer. It was Jackson's second home run of the season. The next three batters reached with a single from Rowdey Jordan and walks from Young and Matt Rudick.
With the bases loaded and one out, Rhylan Thomas put the Ponies in front 3-2 with a sacrifice fly that scored Jordan. Alex Ramírez followed with an RBI single that made it 4-2. The next batter was Kevin Parada, and he clobbered a three-run home run to right field that put Binghamton up 7-2. It was Parada's second homer of the year.
New Hampshire (8-9) threatened in the eighth inning, after the first three batters reached base with walks. Tirotta hit a two-run single in the eighth to cut the Ponies lead to 7-5. The Fisher Cats threatened again in the ninth against Paul Gervase with an RBI groundout from Devonte Brown that made it 7-6. Gervase stranded the potential tying run on third base, earning his first save of the season.
Troy Miller started the game for Binghamton and worked out of two bases-loaded jams to allow just two runs over four innings. Junior Santos (2-0) earned the win with two hitless and scoreless frames and two strikeouts.
The Rumble Ponies will continue their six-game road series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays) at Delta Dental Stadium on Thursday. First pitch is set for 6:35 PM and the game will be broadcast live on WNBF News Radio 1290 & 92.1 FM.
