The MLB Non-Tender Deadline was 8PM last night. Lots of players are now free agents and there
were a number of player moves.
MLB.com
has the full list. Most notable are Phillies 2B César Hernández; Giants
OF Kevin Pillar; Cubs SS Addison Russell; Ex-Met C
Kevin Plawecki; A’s RHP Blake Treinen; Phillies 3B Maikel Franco;
As noted the other day, Rising
Apple looked at the Mets getting Kevin Pillar. “Pillar fits the mold as a
right-handed-hitting center fielder that plays better defense than Nimmo.” With 21 Homers and 88 RBIs in 2019 he hit
better than Juan Lagares. Mack says “looks
like a good fit”. Reese will have more
on this later.
The
Mets tendered contracts to all 8 arbitration eligible players: Marcus
Stroman, Noah Syndergaard, Michael Conforto, Edwin Diaz, Steven Matz, Seth
Lugo, Brandon Nimmo, and Robert Gsellman.
SNY included what they thought each of them will make.
The Padres acquired
A’s second baseman Jurickson
Profar in exchange
for catcher Austin Allen and a player to be named or cash considerations.
The Red Sox
traded catcher Sandy Leon to
the Indians and tendered a contract to Jackie Bradley Jr.
Mets 360 has a deep dive into Pete Alonso’s
2019 HR Barrage. Author Chris
Flanders did amazing research here. First step “re-watch (at least five times)
every full at bat when a homer occurred and chart the pitch sequence as best as
possible given limitations of an off-center outfield camera.” He includes the charts. Mind blowing work. Well worth the read.
Speaking
of great work, Faith and Fear in Flushing continues the list of the top 100
Mets of the 2010’s with numbers 90-81.
Logan Verrett, Rajai Davis, Jason Vargas are just a few to make the
list.
More lists, MiLB
is running down the top 10 minor league games of 2019 starting with numbers
8-10. Not sure if the Syracuse
season ending tie braking loss will make the list.
The Manager of that game that saw
the Syracuse Mets blow leads of 7-1 and 13-6, Tony
DeFrancesco, is now being considered to coach first base for the Mets.
As noted yesterday MLB
Trade Rumors says that the Brewers may
make Josh Hader available and that the Mets may be a trade partner.
This ignited lots of stories all over.
SNY.TV
looked at some potential trades. They
think Ryan Braun should be included to give the brewars salary relief plus the
Mets give up a prime prospect!!! Mets
get: Josh Hader, Ryan Braun, Brewers get: J.D. Davis OR Dominic Smith, Edwin Diz,
Mark Vientos. (No thank you.)
Mike
Puma thinks to get Josh Hader: “From the major league roster, J.D. Davis
might be a piece the Mets are willing to move in such a deal, but it would
likely take additional prospects.”
Metsmerized
had how SNY.TV’s Andy Martino thinks the Mets will need “to include Jeff McNeil, J.D. Davis, or Dominic Smith”. Jeff McNeil?
Seriously?
Metsmerized
looked at the top 5 worst trades of the decade. I am sure you will agree on Number 1 but Number
5 was Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez for Angel Pagan. So glad someone else hated that trade. I hated it the second it was announced. Hated how Terry Collins took a player that always
hit well at the top of the order and insisted he hit 5th or 6th
though when he did hit in those positions he never hit well. The result? His worst season as a Met and he
was sold low to the Giants who then won a World Series with Pagan.
Amazing
Avenue looks at Mets Starting Pitching options, part 4. Some good observations but Mack thinks it
will be Lugo taking the 5th spot and I think Mack is correct.
No Winter league games in Australia or the Dominican on
Monday.
