Mike Puma NY Post: Brandon Nimmo’s sizzling road trip continued with a homer in the third inning that sliced the Giants’ lead to 6-2. The blast was the second in four games for Nimmo, who entered play with a .525/.568/.725 slash line over his previous nine games.
Metstradamus: "Combine that with every single close play and close replay going against the Mets (correctly, but still frustrating) and an eighth inning rally falling just short with Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso retired with the tying run on deck, and you have a 7-4 loss."

The Mets outfielder legged out an infield single in the 10th inning that allowed ghost runner Jeff McNeil to score the go-ahead run in a 6-5 victory over the Diamondbacks at Chase Field."

Not even when their placed base-runner Kevin Pillar advanced to third base with no outs in the 10th, pinch-hitter Jeff McNeil chasing several pitches out of the zone to strike out, nor when they loaded the bases with one out, Dominic Smith grounding into a double play.”

Ron Darling (L,1-2) didn't have it allowing 6 runs in the first two innings. Instead of taking Darling out, Davy Johnson wanted his young pitcher to figure out how to pitch even when he didn't have his best stuff. Ron settled down to not allow anymore runs over the 3rd, 4th and 5th innings. He also went on to post a 12-9 record with a 3.81 ERA in 1984 and winning 99 games in his Mets career.

Mardie Conejo (W,3-0) only pitched one year in the Majors - and it wasn't even the full season but in 1978 he was solid for the Mets in April, May and September. After RBI singles by Ron Hodges and Tom Grieve in the top of the 7th tied the game, Mardie threw a scoreless 7th. Then, when Ron Hodges singled in Willie Montanez in the 8th, Mardie earned the victory as Skip Lockwood threw two scoreless for the win.

National Pastime.com: On the day he is presented with his Cy Young Award, Mets' fireballer Tom Seaver ties a major league record by whiffing 19 Padres, including the last ten he faces, to gain a 2-1 win at Shea Stadium. Batterymate Jerry Grote sets the major league mark with ten consecutive putouts in a game for a catcher.
A double by Ken Boswell in the first drove in the first Mets run. A triple by Bud Harrelson drove in the second.
