Two memorable series in St. Louis this same week in 1971 and 1986. 1971 - the Mets banged 10 hits against Bob Gibson...1986 - a great double play helped them win the third straight game 3 of that series. Plus, Craig Swan starts a game, pitches to just one batter, and loses. These are just some of the games the Mets have played on April 26th.

From Yesterday's Nationals 4 Mets 1 - Post Game Notes: "Jeff McNeil (2-3, BB): Has a .417/.500/.556 slashline in his last 10 games."
Mark W. Sanchez NY Post: Mets suffer fourth consecutive defeat with ugly loss to Nationals. "Buck Showalter’s crew has dropped four straight in April after never losing more than three in a row last year, the latest a 4-1 defeat to Washington in front of 20,191 frustrated fans at Citi Field on Wednesday night...One night after Josiah Gray kept the Mets scoreless for six innings, MacKenzie Gore threw six, one-run innings in which he punched out a career-high-tying 10."
Laura Albanese Newsday: Mets don't hit, pitch or field in second straight loss to Nationals. "They committed three errors while stranding eight men on base and going 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. The Mets have been outscored 9-1 over two games against one of the worst-hitting teams in baseball and have scored one run in 21 innings. They’ve also struck out 28 times in two games (15 Wednesday) despite entering the day with 180 strikeouts, fourth-fewest in baseball."
Brian Joura Mets360: "Kodai Senga continues to give up too many walks, which built up his pitch count and necessitated his removal after five innings. It wasn’t an awful performance but he left with a 2-1 deficit and ended up taking the loss. The bullpen gave up two runs, which with the way the offense is going was too much to overcome."
Metstradamus: "The lineup made MacKenzie Gore look like Steve Carlton. And at the point that I referenced it felt like 9-1 instead of 2-1, Jeimer Candelario hit a home run off Jeff Brigham to make it 3-1, and then it really felt like 9-1."

Brian Joura Mets360: Gut Reaction: Mets 3, Cardinals 0. "The visiting Mets prevailed over St. Louis Tuesday night 3-0, assuring the Mets of winning this series, and making the Mets 6-0 in winning series to start the season. The game was nowhere near as exciting as the barn-burner of an opener of the series, but it counts the same in the scorebook as they say"
Metstradamus: "This game featured things with varying degrees of expectation. Chris Bassitt throwing six scoreless innings? Totally expected at this point...James McCann with three hits? Totally unexpected by everyone … except hitting coach Eric Chavez who had said that he looked “hitterish”.
NY Post: Mets blank Cardinals, win franchise-record sixth straight series to start season. "The Mets jumped on Jordan Hicks for two runs in the third to take a 2-0 lead. Jeff McNeil and James McCann stroked consecutive doubles for the first run and Marte’s scalding RBI single past third base added another. Hicks departed before the inning was complete with a right wrist contusion. McCann’s double to the center-field fence was the highlight of his 3-for-4 night at the plate. The previously slumping catcher has also homered on the road trip."

Mets might have felt good about their chances of winning when Pirates starter, Al McBean couldn't get out of the 1st allowing 1 run on 4 walks and a balk. But Al Jackson (L,1-2) walked the first batter in the bottom of the 1st and allowed a HR to the second, Ted Savage, and the Bucks led the rest of the way.
