— MLB HR Tracker (@hr_mlb) June 17, 2021
Javier Baez is on pace for 212 strikeouts and 19 walks this year.
— High Heat Stats (@HighHeatStats) June 18, 2021
That difference of 193 (strikeouts minus walks) would be the largest in an MLB season, by a HUGE margin.
The current record is "only" 151, set by Chris Davis in 2018 with 192 strikeouts and 41 walks.
Matched a season high with 8 strikeouts tonight. @STR0 had a strong outing vs. the Cubs:

News: Jacob deGrom is fine, according to two doctors, Luis Rojas said.
— Tim Healey (@timbhealey) June 17, 2021
"(The MRI) shows as a normal shoulder that a pitcher would have," Rojas said. "Both doctors had the same prognosis."
He is day to day. deGrom played catch today.
Jacob deGrom is now in the outfield playing what appears to be a light game of catch.

Another Jacob deGrom injury scare leads us off in the latest Mets Beat Report: pic.twitter.com/9X2IOuomVA
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) June 17, 2021
Jacob deGrom has said at least one of his recent physical issues resulted from a swing. Freddie Freeman, in a text exchange with deGrom that began last night, said he told his friend, “I know you’re getting a hit or an RBI every time up. But baseball needs you every fifth day.”
— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) June 17, 2021
The Mets expect Jeff McNeil (strained left hamstring) to join them either Sunday in Washington or Monday back home at Citi Field, per Luis Rojas. So he won't be there for Saturday's doubleheader.

Transactions:
New York Mets released Joe Torre on June 18, 1977.
New York Mets traded Lenny Dykstra, Roger McDowell and Tom Edens to the Philadelphia Phillies for Juan Samuel on June 18, 1989.
New York Mets traded Allen Watson to the Seattle Mariners for Justin Dunning and Mac Suzuki on June 18, 1999.
New York Mets traded Collin McHugh to the Colorado Rockies for Eric Young on June 18, 2013.
1989 | The Phillies trade second baseman Juan Samuel to the Mets for outfielder Lenny Dykstra, relief pitcher Roger McDowell, and a player to be named later, that will be minor league pitcher Tom Edens. New York's experiment to turn their new infielder, who will play only 86 games with New York, into a center fielder will fail miserably, while 'Nails' will go on to be a three-time All-Star and a cog in Philadelphia's National League championship in 1993, being selected as the runner-up for the Most Valuable Player Award. |
2004 | At Shea Stadium, Hall of Fame catchers Carlton Fisk, Johnny Bench, Gary Carter, and Yogi Berra take part in a pregame ceremony to honor Mike Piazza for hitting the most home runs as a catcher in baseball history. The Mets' backstop established the new mark, breaking Carlton Fisk's record, with his 352nd home run on May 5. |
2012 | Allowing only a fifth-inning single by Wilson Betemit in the Mets' 5-0 victory over Baltimore at Citi Field, R.A. Dickey throws his second consecutive one-hitter, becoming the first pitcher to record back-to-back one-hit games since Dave Stieb accomplished the feat in 1988. The 37 year-old knuckleball pitcher, who hasn't allowed an earned run in 42.2 innings, also limited Tampa Bay to a lone safety in his last start. |
2010: The Mets extend their winning streak to 8 games when rookie Hisanori Takahashi, with help from Pedro Feliciano and Francisco Rodriguez, shuts out their crosstown rivals the New York Yankees, 4 - 0.
2012: R.A. Dickey throws his second consecutive one-hitter in beating the Orioles, 5 - 0. He is the first pitcher to do so since Dave Stieb in 1988, and the first in the National League since Jim Tobin in 1944. The Mets' knuckleballer has not allowed an earned run in his last 5 starts. Wilson Betemit gets the only hit against him with a 5th-inning single. You Tube Link
2013: The Mets get a pair of outstanding performances from young pitchers in sweeping a doubleheader from the Braves. In the opener, second-year man Matt Harvey, 24, takes a no-hitter into the 7th inning and strikes out 13 on his way to a 4 - 3 win. In the nitecap, rookie Zack Wheeler, 23, making his highly anticipated major league debut, pitches six shutout innings and strikes out 7 as the Mets win again, 6 - 1.
