NY Post: Mets face delicate challenge to ramp up Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer. "The Mets’ biggest concern will be Jacob deGrom, who missed the second half of last season with a low-grade tear in his ulnar collateral ligament...Max Scherzer, 37, has been a workhorse during his Hall of Fame career, but he also showed his mortality last October, when a dead arm prevented him from taking the ball for Game 6 of the NLCS against the Braves."

Joel Sherman NY Post: ‘Go time’: Buck Showalter’s first moves after lockout ended. "For Showalter that meant connecting first with his players...He reached out to key veterans, such as Pete Alonso, Robinson Cano, Jacob deGrom and Francisco Lindor. He had a half-hour conversation in person Friday with Max Scherzer..."

MLB Trade Rumors: "The Mets 'have done some background work on' Diamondbacks righty Luke Weaver as New York continues to explore trade possibilities, SNY’s Andy Martino reports (via Twitter). A right shoulder strain limited Weaver to only 65 2/3 innings last season, giving him two injury-plagued seasons sandwiched around a dismal 2020 campaign that saw him post a 6.58 ERA."

MLB Trade Rumors: Latest on Michael Conforto's Market.  Rockies, Marlins, Diamondbacks, Yankees, are all mentioned.

The second exhibition season bench-clearing brawl this week occurs when a raging Mike Piazza charges the mound after being hit by a pitch thrown by Guillermo Mota, who makes it to the dugout without being caught. The incident may be a follow-up to a similar event last spring when a shoving match between the two players resulted when the Mets' All-Star catcher waited for Mota and grabbed the Dodger reliever by the jersey as he was coming off the field in the eighth inning of the game.
