Game Recap: Binghamton Comes Up Short Against Fightins Wednesday Night

READING, PA – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (13-27) fell to the Reading Fightin Phils 5-1 on Wednesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium as the two teams have split the first two games of the series.

Reading got on the board in the third inning as Aldrem Corredor hit a two out two-run single to put the Fightins up 2-0. They added two more in the fifth to extend their lead to 4-1. Mickey Moniak, playing for Reading as part of an MLB Rehab Assignment, homered in the sixth to make it 5-1.

Binghamton scored their lone run in the fourth as Luke Ritter smacked an RBI double to left that scored Wyatt Young from second. Ritter had two of the three Ponies hits on the evening as he added an infield single in the seventh. The Ponies only had four runners on base during the game.

David Griffin (0-3) started for the Ponies and allowed two runs and four hits over two and two thirds innings in the loss. Reading starter Erik Miller retired all nine batters he faced over his three innings of work.

The Ponies continue their series with the Fightins on Thursday night with first pitch at 6:45 PM and pregame coverage getting underway at 6:30 PM.

Postgame Notes: Ritter has an RBI in consecutive games and has driven in a run in three of his last four games…Rumble Ponies Hitting Coach Tommy Joseph was recognized before the game as Joseph had played for Reading for parts of the 2012, 2013, and 2014 seasons.
