Game Recap: Hamel Ks 9 Jays, St. Lucie Mets Win Second in a Row


St. Lucie beats Dunedin 7-4 

DUNEDIN, Fla. (May 26, 2022) – The St. Lucie Mets won their second straight game by defeating the Dunedin Blue Jays 7-4 on Thursday at TD Ballpark. (Box Score)

The Mets jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first four innings. Jack-Thomas Wold got the scoring started with a two-out RBI single in the first inning. The Mets scored three runs without a hit in the second inning. Alex Ramirez lofted a sac fly and Omar De Los Santos hit a ball that was thrown away, allowing Vincent Perozo and Junior Tilien to score for a 4-0 lead. 

Raul Beracierta crushed a two-run homer in the third inning off Soenni Martinez to make it 6-0 Mets. 

De Los Santos hit a sac fly in the fourth inning to bring home Kevin Villavicencio to put the Mets up 7-0. 

Mets starter Dominic Hamel cruised for most of the game. He retired the first eight batters he faced and 10 of the first 11. Gabriel Martinez got the Blue Jays on the board with a one-out homer in the fourth. 

The next time up Martinez cranked a long three-run homer on Hamel's 95th and final pitch of the night to make it 7-4. 

Hamel still got the win. He walked just one and struck out a season-high nine batters over 5.1 innings. Hamel was charged with four runs on four hits. 

Mets relievers Joshua Cornielly and Daniel Juarez ensured there would be no Jays comeback. Cornielly took over for Hamel in the sixth and pitched 2.2 hitless innings with two walks and the three strikeouts. 

Juarez pitched around a walk and an error to strike out three in a hitless ninth. He earned his second save. 

Carlos Dominguez was the only Met with a multi-hit game. He went 2 for 5 with a double. 

The Mets (28-14) and Blue Jays (18-24) play the fourth game of their series on Friday. First pitch from TD Ballpark is 6:30 p.m.
