Mets down Flying Tigers 5-4, St. Lucie improves to 15-3 at Clover Park
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (May 15, 2022) – St. Lucie Mets won their fifth consecutive game with a 5-4 extra innings victory over the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Sunday afternoon at Clover Park. (Box Score)
William Lugo opened the bottom of the 10th inning with a single up the middle to plate Khalil Lee, who was the free runner at second base, to walk it off for the Mets.
Nathan Lavender struck out three in the top of the 10th to strand Lakeland's runner at second base, setting up Lugo for the winning hit in the bottom of the inning. Lavender also pitched a scoreless ninth to help get the game to extras. He got the win for pitching 2.0 scoreless inning.
The Mets improved to 3-0 in extra innings this year and 15-3 at Clover Park. They've won each of their first three home series 5-1.
Alex Ramirez went 4 for 5 with a tying hit in the seventh inning.
After the Flying Tigers went back up 4-3 in the top of the eighth inning, Justin Guerrera hit a RBI triple in the bottom of the frame to tie the game again 4-4.
Guerrera went 2 for 4. Lugo also went 2 for 4 and led the Mets with eight hits in the series.
Omar De Los Santos was 2 for 4 with a RBI, run and two stolen bases.
The Mets (23-10) are off on Monday. They return to action on Tuesday to start a two-week road trip against the Tampa Tarpons and Dunedin Blue Jays. First pitch against the Tarpons on Tuesday is 6:30 p.m.
