Tim Healey Newsday: Mets' win streak ends at seven with loss to Rangers after Drew Smith allows tie-breaking homer in seventh. "The difference in the finale with Texas (34-40), which snapped a five-game losing streak: Leody Taveras’ two-run home run off former Rangers fan Drew Smith in the seventh. Smith left a fastball on the inner third of the plate, and Taveras blasted it an estimated 405 feet to right-centerfield."
NY Post: Mets’ win streak ends at seven as bullpen falters in loss to Rangers “Manaea lasted 5 ²/₃ innings and allowed three earned runs on two hits with three walks and a hit batter. Manaea needed 36 pitches to get through the first inning, but surrendered only one run. Manaea walked Grossman, Adolis Garcia and Josh Smith in succession with two outs to load the bases before plunking Wyatt Langford to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.”
Brian Joura Mets360: "But the Mets tied the game in the fourth inning. Brandon Nimmo led off with an excuse-me double and he came around to score on a double by Starling Marte. And they took the lead in the top of the sixth, when Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer."
Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: "For a moment, the Mets looked as though they would win a season-high eight straight. But the Rangers came right back to tie the game in the bottom of the inning with left-hander Sean Manaea running into trouble. With one out and one on, Josh Smith pulled the ball deep to the right field corner to drive in Robbie Grossman, cutting the Mets’ lead to one. Sean Reid-Foley then relieved Manaea and gave up an RBI single to Wyatt Langford."

The Mets had lost their last seven games versus their fellow expansion mates."

From the Mets Post Game notes:
- Chris Bassitt (6.1 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 9 K): Faced the Marlins for the first time in his career...Registered a season-high nine strikeouts, his most in a game since 5/27/21.
- Francisco Lindor (1-4, RBI): Opened the scoring with an RBI single to center field in the sixth inning.
Brian Joura Mets360: "The Marlins busted out with a 5-run seventh inning, breaking open a pitcher’s duel and leading to a 6-2 win over the Mets Sunday afternoon at Citi Field."
Metstradamus: "...when the Mets scratched out a two out run in the 6th on a Francisco Lindor RBI single, it seemed like the Mets really had a chance to overcome one of the best pitchers on the planet. But Bassitt gave up two singles and a walk which sandwiched an out, and Buck Showalter brought in Seth Lugo to face Jerar Encarnacion, who was playing in his first ever game...Jerar just smiled and gave Seth Lugo a vegemite sandwich. (Your definition of vegemite may vary.) His grand slam was the difference in a 6-2 Mets loss..."

In doing so, he overtakes both Wally Berger (in 1930) and Gary Sanchez (in 2016), who had hit 20 homers in their first 51 major league games, as he now has 21 long balls. That total leads the National League even though Bellinger spent the first three weeks of the season in the minors.

Mike Puma NY Post: Putrid infield strikes again as Mets waste deGrom’s gem. "On Friday, disaster struck the Mets in the eighth inning, after Wilmer Flores made a late throw to first base with a drawn-in infield. The Mets never recovered and lost their third straight, 2-1 to the Braves at Turner Field. Jacob deGrom had a brilliant night’s work flushed when Jace Peterson slammed a two-run double over Juan Lagares’ head in center field to give the Braves the lead. The hit came against lefty Sean Gilmartin, but the runs were charged to deGrom, who deserved better...Michael Cuddyer’s RBI single in the sixth gave the Mets a 1-0 lead. Tejada opened the inning with a double before Cuddyer delivered a chopper over third base for his 24th RBI of the season.

Not a lot of great games between the time Tom Seaver was traded and Keith Hernandez was acquired but this was one of them. Down 4-2, the Mets tie it on a HR by George Foster, a triple by Dave Kingman and a sac fly by Ellis Valentine. Then down 5-4, the Mets score 4 in the 8th on a Rusty Staub sac fly and a Kingman 3 run HR.
