BINGHAMTON, NY – New York Mets pitcher Max Scherzer will make a rehab start Tuesday with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, throwing to Mets Catcher James McCann at Mirabito Stadium against the Reading Fightin Phils.
The 37-year-old three-time Cy Young Award winner, eight-time all-star, and 2019 World Series champion is in his first season with the Mets.
Scherzer is 195-98 with a 3.15 ERA over his fifteen-year major league career, notching more than 3,000 strikeouts. He is 5-1 with a 2.54 ERA in eight starts with the Mets this season. Scherzer began his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks and has pitched for the Detroit Tigers, Washington Nationals, and Los Angeles Dodgers before joining the Mets this past offseason.
McCann has been on a rehab assignment with Binghamton since Thursday. The 32-year-old catcher is in his second season with the Mets and in his ninth season in the major leagues.
