Ponies Unable to Overcome SeaWolves Quick Start in Loss at Erie
ERIE, PA – The Erie SeaWolves scored five runs over the first two innings, as the Rumble Ponies fell 7-2 to the SeaWolves at UPMC Park Wednesday night. It's Binghamton's longest skid of the season at eight games.
The Seawolves (9-4, 48-34) plated three runs in the first off David Griffin (L,0-5), beginning with the leadoff hitter Daniel Cabrera hitting an inside-the-park home run on a line drive down the left field line. Later in the frame, Dillon Dingler hit a two-run double to left center that extended the lead to 3-0.
The Rumble Ponies (3-11, 31-52) plated a run in the second on a bases loaded infield single from Wyatt Young to make it a 3-1 game. In the bottom half of the frame, Cabrera again delivered with an RBI single to make it 4-1 and two batters later Parker Meadows hit an RBI single to right that extended the lead to 5-1.
The Ponies cut the deficit to 6-2 in the fifth on a solo home run from Brett Baty to left center, his 12th of the year. Baty finished 3-5 as he also got on base with singles in the third and the ninth.
Binghamton did get the first two men on in the sixth, via a walk by Nick Meyer and a single from Jeremy Vasquez off Kyle Zurak (3-1) but were unable to score. Vasquez also had a three hit night finishing 3-4.
The two teams continue their series on Thursday evening with first pitch at 6:05 PM and pregame coverage beginning at 5:50 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.
Postgame Notes: Alec Kisena was strong in relief allowing one earned run over four frames with two walks and four strikeouts…Cabrera's inside-the-park home run was the first against the Rumble Ponies this season. Ronny Mauricio returned to the Binghamton lineup for the first time since July 3rd.
Brett Baty exits stage left-center.
