Game Recap: Threshers Stun St. Lucie Mets in 11 Innings, Win 6-5

Wold homers again in loss

CLEARWATER, Fla. (August 11, 2022) – The Clearwater Threshers scored four runs in the bottom of the 11th inning to shock the St. Lucie Mets 6-5 at BayCare Ballpark on Thursday. (Box Score)

After both teams failed to score in the 10th inning, Raul Beracierta hit a wall-ball RBI double to put the Mets up 3-2 in the 11th. Jack-Thomas Wold followed with an opposite field two-run homer to put the Mets up 5-2.

Mets reliever Miguel Alfonseca, who kept the free runner from scoring in the 10th, struggled to throw strikes in the 11th. He plunked the first batter, was tagged for a single that loaded the bases, then walked Chad Castillo to force home a run that cut Clearwater's deficit to 5-3.

Michael Krauza came in from the bullpen and struck out Troy Schreffler but then walked Matt Alifano to force home another run that made it 5-4. With the bases reloaded, Wilfredo Flores crushed a two-strike pitch into right for a two-run game-winning single.

The Mets took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning when Omar De Los Santos hit an infield single with the bases loaded and shortstop Erick Brito threw the ball away to first base to bring home a second run.

The Threshers tied the game in the eighth on a two-out RBI single by Hao Yu Lee that made it 2-2.

De Los Santos, Beracierta, Wold and Justin Guerrera each had two hits for the Mets.

Starter Jordan Geber held the Threshers to one run over 5.1 innings in a no decision.

The Mets (61-43, 21-18) and Threshers (49-55, 14-25) play game 4 of their series at BayCare Ballpark on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
