Game Recap: Tidwell debuts, St. Lucie Mets Win 4th Straight, 7-3

Tidwell tosses 1.2 scoreless innings as St. Lucie Mets Beat Flying Tigers 

LAKELAND, Fla. (August 16, 2022) – The St. Lucie Mets won their fourth straight game with a series-opening 7-3 victory over the Lakeland Flying Tigers at Joker Marchant Stadium on Tuesday. (Box Score)

Blade Tidwell, the Mets second round pick (52nd overall) out of Tennessee, made his team debut. Tidwell started and pitched 1.2 scoreless innings without a hit. He walked a batter, plunked two batters and got a crucial double play to end the first inning to strand the tying run at third base. 

Raul Beracierta put the Mets up 1-0 in the first on a two-out RBI triple. Eduardo Salazar grounded a run-scoring hit into right field in the second inning to make it 2-0. Fernando Villalobos then clubbed a three-run homer to right field off Lakeland starter Kris Anglin to put the Mets up 5-0. 

Miguel Alfonseca followed Tidwell with 1.1 scoreless innings. Raimon Gomez pitched four innings of relief to get the win. Gomez allowed two runs on one hit. He hit two, walked one and struck out three. 

Benito Garcia pitched the final two innings. 

Chase Estep led the Mets at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two singles and two walks. He also scored two runs. 

The Mets drew seven walks and turned five of those walked batters into runs. 

With the victory, the Mets took over solo first place in the FSL East second half for the first time in the half. They already won the first half. 

The Mets (65-43, 25-18) and Flying Tigers (51-56, 19-22) play the second game of their series at Joker Marchant Stadium on Wednesday. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
