Max Scherzer (5.0 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 5 K): Left today's game feeling fatigued on his left side.

• Reached the 150-strikeout mark in a season for the 13th time in his career, tied with Justin Verlander for the eighth most such seasons all-time.
• Has a 1.67 ERA (12 ER/64.2 IP) in his first 10 home starts as a Met, the best mark in franchise by any pitcher through their first 10 home starts (Min 50.0 IP)...His 76 strikeouts in his first 10 home starts with the Mets ranks third behind Dwight Gooden (87) and Nolan Ryan (82).
• His 2.26 ERA (32 ER/127.2 IP) is the best all-time mark by a Mets pitcher through their first 20 games with the franchise (Min. 100.0 IP)...His 0.92 WHIP is the second-best all-time by a Mets pitcher during that span... Pedro Martinez had a 0.85 WHIP in his first 20 games with the Mets.
• Has allowed one or fewer runs in 165 career starts, the fourth-most among active pitchers behind Zack Greinke (190), Clayton Kershaw (182) and Justin Verlander (170).

Eduardo Escobar (1-2, HR, RBI, R, BB): Slugged a solo homer in the third to put the Mets on the board...Was the second time he has homered in at least two straight games...Homered in three consecutive games from 7/1 - 7/3. 

Bryce Montes De Oca (0.2 IP, H, BB, K): Threw 0.2 scoreless inning in his major league debut.

1985	Following a three-homer performance last night, Gary Carter ties a major league record by hitting two solo round-trippers, becoming the 11th player in major league history to hit five home runs in two games. The future Hall of Fame catcher's offensive output, which also includes a run-producing single, contributes to the Mets 9-2 victory over the Padres at Jack Murphy Stadium.

1972: The Cubs top the Mets, 2 - 0, as Fergie Jenkins posts his 19th win. The Cubs then drop the second game, 7 - 2, to Gary Gentry, who strikes out 8.
