Danny Abriano SNY.TV: Pros and Cons: Should the Mets sign Justin Verlander? If the Mets lose Jacob deGrom, should they target Verlander? Danny asks "Would it be ideal to have a 40-year-old [Verlander] and a 39-year-old [Scherzer] at the top of the Mets' rotation as they attempt to win a World Series, which would of course require both Verlander and Scherzer pitching deep into October and possibly into November? Perhaps not."
NY Post: "Former Mets outfielder Chuck Carr, who played in New York in 1990 and 1991, died recently at 55. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Carr was battling health issues, according to family social media posts."
Mike's Mets thinks that "Hiring Eric Jagers is a smart move that could pay big dividends in the future" in his latest Post "Small Things".
Luckily the event was held in Troy, NY - just North/East of Albany. Lorraine talked about her first meeting in the early 2000's with Tom Seaver where she had to go over his appearance schedule. He told her that before they discussed anything that she had to go get him a Heineken. She then had to walk up two flights of stairs to get him one from the Diamond Club. When she came back he asked 'Where's the glass?" Apparently that was just one of Tom's little pranks he used to play and Lorraine went on to say that Tom and Mike Piazza were Hall of Famers both on and off the field.
Bobby Ojeda and Tommie Agee were also inducted, Tommie Agee's daughter gave a very inspirational speech about Tommie's struggles in the minors and how Tommy John would not stay in a segregated hotel because Tommie was not allowed to stay. The two rented a car, ate chicken and slept in the car until the game the next day,
The Cubs and Reds reportedly have also been in touch with the Rays, who are in "advanced" trade negotiations ahead of Tuesday's deadline to add Rule 5 eligible players to the 40-man roster. https://t.co/DJkuyrk2GQ pic.twitter.com/jvc1MnW5Zz

1986 | Nelson Doubleday and Fred Wilpon buy the World Champion Mets from the Doubleday Publishing Company for $80.75 million. In 1980, the book company had purchased the franchise for a then-record $21.1 million. |
2012: The Cy Young Awards are announced in both leagues. In the National League, R.A. Dickey of the Mets is the first knuckleballer ever so honored after finishing the year with a record of 20-6, 2.73 and 230 strikeouts. In the American League, David Price of the Rays edges last year's winner, Justin Verlander of the Tigers, 153 to 149. Price receives 14 first-place votes after finishing the season at 20-5, 2.56 with 205 Ks, while Verlander gets 13, after a season during which he went 17-8, 2.64 with 239 strikeouts.
2018 - In spite of notching just 10 wins, Jacob deGrom of the Mets wins the 2018 National League Cy Young Award, receiving 29 of 30 first-place votes. His major-league leading ERA of 1.70 convinced voters to set aside his win/loss record, which was largely influenced by terrible run support. In the American League, Blake Snell of the Rays is the winner after going 21-5 with an ERA of 1.89.
11/14/2018 Jacob deGrom wins his first Cy Young Award. His 1.70 ERA was the lowest ERA in a single season by a Mets starter since Doc Gooden in 1985, and he set a MLB record with a streak of 24 consecutive quality starts. 364 days later, deGrom would win his second Cy Young. pic.twitter.com/lBKDA1gBcX
