Tim Healey Newsday: Mets' Francisco Alvarez got catcher-to-catcher advice from Cardinals icon Yadier Molina. "Molina...was the newbie manager of Navegantes del Magallanes, a team in [Venezuela]’s winter league. Alvarez, the Mets’ top prospect, was there to work out...'It was really the mental part of it. There was something that clicked with me there,' Alvarez said. 'It’s like, you have to be relaxed, you have to be calm when you’re at the plate and when you’re catching. I think that’s what stuck with me the most. That’s what will help me put it together more than the physical aspect.'"

Mike Puma NY Sports+ Behind the scenes of how the Mets are readying Francisco Alvarez to be their catcher of the future.  Mike spoke to full time catching instructor Glen Sherlock "'He’s very young, and right now we’re working on everything. But probably the biggest things we’re working on are his receiving, blocking and throwing...A lot of it is spending time talking to the pitchers. Like here, what we’re trying to do is encourage all of our catchers, not just Alvarez" (Subscription required)

SNY.TV: Mets' Buck Showalter discusses plan for Francisco Alvarez ahead of 2023 season. "Despite two veteran catchers in front of him, Showalter encouraged Alvarez to approach this spring with big league aspirations."

NY Post: Francisco Lindor: Would’ve played through appendectomy if Mets made NLDS. "Less than a week after the Mets’ season ended in October with a loss to the Padres in the NL wild-card series, Francisco Lindor experienced lower abdominal discomfort...Lindor underwent an appendectomy...The timing of the procedure coincided with when the Mets would have potentially been playing in the NLDS had they advanced past the Padres. But in Lindor’s mind, he would have played regardless."

NY Post: Mets plan to keep David Peterson in minors without clear spot in rotation.

NY Post: Manny Machado is perfect fit as newest star for Mets to target in free agency. "The amazing Machado announced upon entering spring training — a la Jacob deGrom last year — that he would be opting out of the last five years of his $300 million, 10-year deal with the Padres at the end of the season"

David Lennon Newsday: Manny Machado is opting out after this season, making him a target for Mets owner Steve Cohen. "Before Machado’s remarks Friday, the Mets already had Shohei Ohtani on their radar, as the Angels’ two-way star also is on track to become a free agent after the season. With Ohtani expected to be the sport’s first $500 million player, surpassing teammate Mike Trout’s $426.5 million contract...As for Machado, he’ll be looking to eclipse the nine-year, $360 million contract that Aaron Judge signed with the Yankees in December...It’s unlikely that even Cohen would agree to spend close to a billion dollars on two players. Instead, Machado now looms as a very attractive Plan B..."
