The Mets still are trying to figure out “exactly what we’re dealing with” regarding Jose Quintana, per Showalter.
— Tim Healey (@timbhealey) March 11, 2023
“They got a couple other people to look at some things & try to decide the best mode of operation, which to go, as soon as we know exactly what we’re dealing with.”
Billy Eppler said he hopes to have a Quintana update by Wednesday. They're waiting on certain doctors to be available.

Is there any reason to believe the diagnosis is different than a rib stress fracture?
"I'm just going to wait till all the information comes out," he said.
NY Post: Kodai Senga scratched with finger discomfort as Mets injury woes grow "Kodai Senga was scratched from his Saturday start against the Nationals at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches due to 'discomfort at the base of his right index finger,' the club said."
SNY.TV: Mets Injury Tracker: Imaging shows tendinitis in Kodai Senga's right index finger; is day-to-day.
Mets.com: "For now, the Mets are calling it a day-to-day issue for Senga, though they haven’t determined when he might pitch again. 'I’ve gone through this with other players that are adjusting to a new baseball,' general manager Billy Eppler said, referring to Japanese pitchers unaccustomed to the larger, slicker American balls. 'They squeeze it really tight. And if you just squeeze a baseball really tight, a lot of times, you’re not used to squeezing it that much with that much repetition.'"
Anthony DiComo Mets.com: "John Curtiss continued stating his case on Saturday that he belongs in the Mets’ bullpen. Pitching in place of injured starter Kodai Senga, Curtiss delivered another scoreless inning with two strikeouts against the Nationals. All told, Curtiss has struck out eight batters in four innings in Grapefruit League play."
Brian Joura Mets360.com: The amazing start of John Curtiss in Grapefruit League action. "In four appearances, Curtiss has thrown 39 pitches and only five of those went for a called ball...Curtiss has induced 18 swings-and-misses. Whiff% is defined as swinging strikes per swing. Curtiss has thrown five balls and has six called strikes so far in his four appearances. That leaves 28 pitches that batters have offered at and they’ve missed 18 times, for a 64.3 Whiff%." NY Post:
- Mets’ Darin Ruf’s
wrist problems could be issue as season nears “Ruf received a cortisone shot in the wrist last month, which did not completely resolve the issue...In the tiny sample size of six at-bats, Ruf has struck out four times and gone hitless...'Had a lot of time off, had an injection,' Showalter said. 'I expect him to get better as spring goes on.'”
- Mets’ Brooks Raley replaced from United States WBC roster
with injury "Raley has a low-grade hamstring strain, the Mets said Saturday, and he will return to Port St. Lucie for spring training...Such injuries often can keep pitchers out for a few weeks."

2003 | The second exhibition season bench-clearing brawl this week occurs when a raging Mike Piazza charges the mound after being hit by a pitch thrown by Guillermo Mota, who makes it to the dugout without being caught. The incident may be a follow-up to a similar event last spring when a shoving match between the two players resulted when the Mets' All-Star catcher waited for Mota and grabbed the Dodger reliever by the jersey as he was coming off the field in the eighth inning of the game. |
