Box Score

HARTFORD, CT – JT Schwartz three-run blast in the first inning led the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (5-6) to their third straight win, as they defeated the Hartford Yard Goats 5-2 on Wednesday night at Dunkin' Park.

Matt Rudick began the game against Hartford RHP Case Williams (0-3) with a leadoff walk and Tanner Murphy followed with a single to center. That brought up Schwartz, who crushed a 3-2 pitch deep into the second deck in right centerfield to put the Ponies up 3-0. Schwartz first home run of the season bumped his RBI total up to 13. It is Schwartz second straight 3-RBI game, and third of the season in 10 games.

Hartford (5-6) would score a run in the first and second innings against Ponies starter Luis Moreno (1-0) to cut the Binghamton lead to 3-2. In the top of the third, with the bases loaded and two out Mateo Gil hit a two-run double down the left field line to extend the Rumble Ponies lead to 5-2.

That would be the last time either team would score. Moreno picked up the first win of his Double-A career, allowing one earned run on four hits over five plus innings. RHP Dedniel Núñez was lights out in relief of Moreno. Entering with first and second and none out in the sixth, Núñez retired the next three batters en route to three perfect innings with five strikeouts. LHP Nate Lavender pitched the ninth to earn his second save of the season with a 1-2-3 frame.

The Rumble Ponies will continue the series in Hartford against the Yard Goats on Thursday night. First pitch is at 7:10 PM with pregame coverage getting underway at 6:55 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.

Postgame Notes: The Ponies top of the order (Rudick, Murphy, Schwartz) each had multi-hit games and combined to score all five Ponies runs…Binghamton pitching held Hartford to only four hits.
