Box Score

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (23-23) fell to the Altoona Curve 4-3 in walk-off fashion in 10 innings on Wednesday night, to even the series at 1-1.

With Binghamton trailing 3-0 in the ninth inning, Jose Peroza belted a game-tying three-run homer to the opposite field after Matt Rudick and Rowdey Jordan singled. Peroza's sixth home run of the season eventually sent the game to extra innings, but the Ponies fell in walk-off fashion for the first time this season.

In the bottom of the 10th, with the game tied 3-3, Altoona (23-22) played small ball. Matt Gorski was the automatic runner on second, and Jacob Gonzalez tried to place down a sacrifice bunt. Gonzalez's bunt attempt turned into a fielder's choice that had Gonzalez retired trying to reach second base, while Gorski got back to second after a rundown.

Connor Scott was the next batter and after Gorski stole third base, Scott drove him in with a sacrifice fly to right field to win the game 4-3.

Jose Chacin and Kyle Nicolas started the game in a duel. Nicolas tossed six scoreless frames with eight strikeouts, while allowing just two hits and a walk. Chacin tossed 5.1 innings and allowed three runs on two homers, while striking out three batters.

Going into the ninth inning, Binghamton had just two hits. The Ponies scored three runs on Peroza's homer and had four hits in just the ninth inning alone against Tyler Samaniego.

The Rumble Ponies will continue their series with the Curve (Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates) on Thursday. First pitch is set for 6:00 PM and pregame coverage gets underway at 5:45 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.

Postgame Notes: Peroza had a multi-hit game and now has 26 RBIs on the season…Rudick had a multi-hit game and reached base three times…Tanner Murphy drew two walks…Brandon McIlwain snapped his 13-game hitting streak...Sammy Tavarez and Justin Courtney combined to throw 3.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen with four strikeouts, four hits, and three walks.
