The Brooklyn Cyclones (11-4, 39-41) have won 6 of their last 7 games and return home to open a three-game series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers (3-11, 39-39) — the High-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates — on Friday evening at 7 p.m. from Maimonides Park on Coney Island. 


RHP Blade Tidwell (5-3, 3.48) — the Mets’ No. 7 prospect per Baseball America — is scheduled to take the hill for Brooklyn against the Pirates’ No. 11 farmhand, RHP Thomas Harrington (0-1, 3.98).

LAST TIME OUT: Brooklyn went into the All-Star break victorious, securing a 7-2 win at Wilmington on Sunday afternoon...The Cyclones trailed 2-1 entering the 8th...Brooklyn scored 4 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th to win their 6th game in 7 tries...’Clones tied the game and took the lead on consecutive singles by 1B Chase Estep and LF Omar De Los Santos...SS César Berbesi finished with 3 hits, a double, and 2 RBI...Estep added 2 hits, a double, and 2 RBI, while 3B William Lugo tallied 2 hits, including a double, 2 runs scored, an RBI, and a walk...3B Lucius Fox collected a pair of knocks and an RBI for Wilmington...RHP Cameron Foster punched out a career-high 9 over 5.2 innings in a no-decision...RHP Jace Beck and RHP Paul Gervase combined to strike out 5 of the final 6 Blue Rock batters to secure the win. 

 

MOVING ON UP: Brooklyn made a series of roster moves prior to the start of Friday’s series vs. Greensboro...RHPs Tyler Stuart and Dylan Tebrake were transferred to Double-A Binghamton...Stuart departs Brooklyn as Minor League Baseball’s leader in ERA (1.55)...His mark is the 3rd-lowest in franchise history among arms with 70.0 or more innings pitched...Only RHP Hansel Robles (1.11 ERA; 72.2 IP) and RHP Dylan Owen (1.49 ERA; 72.1 IP) have registered lower marks...Tebrake held a 1.17 ERA (3 ER in 23.0 IP) over 13 relief appearances since being reinstated from the injured list. 

 

NEW KIDS (AND RETURNEES) ON THE BOARDWALK: On Friday, RHPs Dylan Hall and Sammy Tavárez were transferred from Double-A Binghamton...RHP Luis Montas completed his rehab assignment and was reinstated from the 60-day injured list...RHP Jordany Ventura was transferred from Single-A St. Lucie...RHP Jeffrey Colón and INF D’Andre Smith were also placed on the 7-day IL on July 7 and 8, respectively...Hall, Tavárez, and Montas all have previous experience on Coney Island...In 20 career appearances between 2021 and 2022, Hall holds an 0-2 record with a 4.23 ERA (13 ER in 27.2 IP), 4 saves, 9 walks, and 34 strikeouts...Tavárez composed a 3-1 clip with a 2.88 ERA (13 ER in 40.2 IP), 5 saves, 33 walks, and 56 punch outs in 32 relief outings for Brooklyn in 2022...Montas did not pitch last year due to injury and made 5 relief appearances with the ‘Clones in 2021...He accrued a 0-1 mark and an 11.57 ERA (9 ER in 7.0 IP) with 2 walks and 7 K’s...Ventura tallied a 4-3 record with a 5.67 ERA (34 ER in 54.0 IP) in 15 appearances (13 starts) with St. Lucie in 2023...He walked 50 (19.2 BB%) and struck out 60 (23.1 K%). 

 

OMAR KEEPS SWIPING: OF Omar De Los Santos stole a pair of bags on Sunday at Wilmington and has 32 stolen bases in 2023...The 32 swipes match INF Walter Rasquin’s franchise record for single-season stolen bases which was set back in 2017 when Brooklyn played in the short-season New York-Penn League...De Los Santos remains among the best base stealers in Minor League Baseball since the beginning of 2022...The Dominican native has accumulated 102 stolen bases in that span, which is tied for 4th most in MiLB...Only Aberdeen OF Luis Valdez (106), D’Backs prospect OF Wilderd Patiño (104), and Marlins farmhand INF Nasim Núñez (103) have tallied more...De Los Santos has also snagged 61 more bases than any other Mets prospect in that time...Fellow 2023 Cyclone IF/OF Jaylen Palmer is 2nd with 41. 

 

CUTTING ‘EM DOWN: RHP Blade Tidwell is amid his best stretch of baseball in 2023...The 22-year-old has tossed 4-straight quality starts dating back to June 17 at Aberdeen...Tidwell has earned the win in 3-of-4 outings with Brooklyn winning all 4 games...He has permitted just 4 runs on 16 hits over 26.0 innings...He has walked only 5 (5.2 BB%) and struck out 37 (38.5 K%) in those contests...Tidwell punched out a career-high and team-season-best-matching 11 in consecutive starts on Thursday at Wilmington and last Friday vs. Jersey Shore...This comes after tied a then-career-best with 10 strikeouts on June 11 vs. Greenville...Tidwell also whiffed 10 on May 4 vs. Aberdeen...Over his last 9 starts dating back to May 17 at Hudson Valley, Tidwell is 5-0 with a 1.55 ERA (8 ER in 46.1 IP) with just 26 hits allowed...The Loretto, Tenn. native has walked 25 and struck out 70 (37.6 K%)...Tidwell’s holding opponents to a meager .161 batting average (26-161) against him...Tidwell leads the South Atlantic League and Minor League Baseball in batting average against (.161) and is 2nd in strikeouts (70) and ERA (1.55) since that date (min. 40.0 IP)...On the season in the SAL, the Loretto, Tenn. native is 2nd in batting average against (.192), 3rd in strikeouts (97), tied for 5th in wins (5), and 6th in ERA (3.48). 

 

WE’RE GOING STREAKING: Brooklyn’s season-high 5-game winning streak came to a close on Saturday but won 6-of-7 and 12-of-16 going into the All-Star break ...Prior last Friday’s victory, the Cyclones had won 4-consecutive ballgames on 2 separate occasions...Most recently, Brooklyn captured 4-straight games from June 22-25 vs. Hudson Valley...The Cyclones first accomplished the feat in 2023 by taking 4 in-a-row at Hudson Valley from May 17 until Game 1 of a doubleheader on May 21...The 5-game streak was the longest for the ‘Clones since they won 6-straight from September 3-9, 2022, vs. Wilmington and at Winston-Salem. 

 

COMEBACK ‘CLONES: Brooklyn earned their 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th come-from-behind victories of the 2023 season with 6-4, 9-3, 3-1, and 7-2 wins over Wilmington on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday...Last Friday’s win was Brooklyn’s first in 2023 when trailing after 8 innings...It marked the ‘Clones first victory when trailing after 8 frames since August 14, 2022, at Wilmington...Brooklyn erased a 5-4 deficit entering the 9th that night on a 2-run pinch-hit home run by C Matt O’Neill...The Cyclones came from 4 runs down to earn the victory on Tuesday, matching their largest deficit erased on the campaign...The ‘Clones erased a 4-0 margin entering the 5th and a 4-1 deficit going into the 7th...Brooklyn also erased a 4-run ledger on Opening Day — April 7 — vs. Jersey Shore...The Cyclones trailed 4-0 after the 1st inning that day, ultimately topping the BlueClaws, 9-8, in 11 innings. 

 

SUPER STAFF: Since the start of a 4-game winning streak at Hudson Valley on May 17, the Cyclones’ pitching staff has, statistically, been the most dominant in Minor League Baseball...Entering the All-Star break, Brooklyn has posted a MiLB-low 2.68 ERA (127 ER in 426.0 IP) over their last 49 games, holding a 28-21 record in that span...The Yankees’ High-A Hudson Valley (2.82) is 2nd in the minors...The Cyclones have hurled 5 shutouts in that span and hold a strikeout rate of 28.5% and a walk rate of 11.2%...Additionally, Brooklyn pitching has permitted the fewest home runs (13) and holds the lowest opposing OPS (.587), in addition to the 3rd lowest hits-per-9 innings (6.61) in that time period...RHPs Blade Tidwell (1.55) and Tyler Stuart (1.62) hold the 2nd and 3rd best ERA’s in MiLB during that time (min. 45.0 IP). 

 

RED HOT RELIEF: The Cyclones’ relief staff has been exquisite at quelling fires in 2023...Entering the All-Star break, Brooklyn had the best bullpen ERA (3.10) in the entire South Atlantic League, and 2nd lowest throughout Minor League Baseball...The Rangers’ Single-A Down East leads (2.97) MiLB, while Hudson Valley (3.47) is 2nd in the circuit...RHP Paul Gervase (1.04) is 1st and 6th in ERA among SAL and MiLB relievers, respectively (min. 30.0 IP). 

 

POWER OF PAUL: RHP Paul Gervase garnered a career-high 6 strikeouts over 3.0 spotless innings of relief on June 9 vs. Greenville and has tossed 8-straight scoreless outings since that date (13.0 IP)...Gervase averages 14.02 strikeouts-per-9-innings and holds a 35.5% strikeout rate for the season...Since June 9, the numbers have ballooned to 16.62 K/9 and a 46.2% strikeout rate. 

 

CAPTAIN KEVIN: Kevin Parada tied a career-high with 3 hits on Wednesday and has picked up the pace offensively over the last few weeks...Dating back to June 6 vs. Greenville, the 21-year-old is slashing .313/.387/.556 with a .943 OPS and 154 wRC+ in 26 games...Parada has accrued 15 runs scored, 3 doubles, 3 triples, 5 home runs, 17 RBI, 10 walks, and 2 hit-by-pitches...The former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket enters the All-Star break tied for 5th in the South Atlantic League in doubles (17), tied for 6th in hits (73), 7th in extra-base hits (29), and tied for 8th in total bases (122)...Since June 6, Parada is tied for 1st in triples (3), tied for 4th in total bases (55), tied for 6th in hits (31), and 7th in batting average (.313), slugging percentage (.556), and OPS (.943). 

 

JUNIOR MINT: INF Junior Tilien clubbed a go-ahead 3-run home run with 2 out in the 9th on Friday at Wilmington as part of a multi-hit night...The 20-year-old has picked up a knock in 8 of his last 9 games...Tilien is 11-for-his-last-36 (.306) with 5 runs scored, a double, 3 home runs, 8 RBI, and 2 walks...During the streak, Tilien is slashing .306/.342/.583 with a .925 OPS and 146 wRC+. 

 

LOVE THE DRAKE!: Drake Osborn was unconscious at the plate in 5 games played during Brooklyn’s series in Wilmington...The 24-year-old matched a career-high in hits (3) in consecutive contests to open the set...Osborn was 8-for-19 (.421) against the Blue Rocks with 4 runs scored, a double, 2 RBI, and a walk...Drake is on a 5-game hitting streak in starts dating back to Monday and, overall, is 9-for-his-last-23 (.391). 

 

AL-WAYS ON: OF Alex Ramírez is 3rd in the South Atlantic League in walks (21), 4th in pitches-per-plate appearance (4.080), and tied for 5th in runs scored (23), since the beginning of June (min. 130 PA)...Ramírez is scattered among the Cyclones’ all-time leaderboard despite joining the team last July 4...Entering Friday, the Dominican native is 3rd in franchise history in RBI (69) and is 22 behind INF José Peroza (91) for the all-time mark and surpassed IF/OF Jaylen Palmer (68) for 3rd last Wednesday...He is also 3rd in doubles (29), tied for 3rd in hits (125) with C José Mena, 5th in total bases (186), and 7th in runs scored (63).
