The Brooklyn Cyclones (8-3, 36-40) look to match their longest winning streak of the season at four against the Wilmington Blue Rocks (4-7, 33-42) — the High-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals — on Thursday evening at 6:35 p.m. from Frawley Stadium in Wilmington, Del. 

RHP Blade Tidwell (5-3, 3.53) — the Mets’ No. 7 prospect per Baseball America — is scheduled to make the start for Brooklyn against Wilmington’s LHP Andrew Alvarez (4-2, 2.79).

LAST TIME OUT: Brooklyn earned their third-straight victory with a 9-3 triumph over Wilmington on Wednesday night...After allowing 2 runs on 3 hits to the first 5 batters, RHP Tyler Stuart retired 17 of the last 19 batters he faced...The 23-year-old allowed 2 runs on 4 hits over 6.0 innings of his third win in as many starts...Cyclones tallied a season-high 16 hits...6-of-9 Brooklyn starters recorded multi-hit games...C Kevin Parada (3x4, 2 R, BB) and DH Drake Osborn (3x4, 2 R, RBI, BB) each collected 3 knocks...3B William Lugo (2x5, RBI), RF Omar De Los Santos (2x5, SB), SS Junior Tilien (2x5, R, HR, 3 RBI), and 2B D’Andre Smith (2x4, 2 R, 2B, 3B) tallied 2 hits apiece...2B Darren Baker and RF Jared McKenzie each posted multiple knocks for Wilmington. 

 

HIT ‘EM UP: Brooklyn tallied a season-best 16 hits in Wednesday’s 9-3 victory over Wilmington...8-of-9 Cyclone starters tallied at least 1 hit, while 6-of-9 registered multi-hit games...The team’s previous season-high was 13 on 2 occasions, most recently on June 14 at Aberdeen...The 16 knocks were the most for the Cyclones since collected 16 hits in an 18-1 victory at Jersey Shore on August 28, 2022. 

 

COMEBACK ‘CLONES: Brooklyn earned their 11th and 12th come-from-behind victories of the 2023 season with 6-4 and 9-3 wins over Wilmington on Tuesday and Wednesday...The Cyclones came from 4 runs down to earn the victory on Tuesday, matching their largest deficit erased on the campaign...The ‘Clones erased a 4-0 margin entering the 5th and a 4-1 deficit going into the 7th...Brooklyn also erased a 4-run ledger on Opening Day — April 7 — vs. Jersey Shore...The Cyclones trailed 4-0 after the 1st inning that day, ultimately topping the BlueClaws, 9-8, in 11 innings. 

 

STU-PENDOUS: RHP Tyler Stuart earned his third victory in as many starts after a 6-inning, 2-run performance on Wednesday at Wilmington...He set career-highs in innings pitched (7.2) and strikeouts (11), in his start on June 22 vs. Hudson Valley...The 23-year-old was the first Cyclone to record 11+ strikeouts in a single game since RHP Carson Seymour accomplished the feat on July 15, 2022, vs. Greensboro...Stuart was also the first Brooklyn arm to work into the 8th inning since RHP Conner Grey tossed 8.1 innings vs. Jersey Shore on July 16, 2021...The Southern Miss alum was the first Cyclone to work 7.0+ innings and record 10+ strikeouts in a single game since LHP Kevin Canelon whiffed 10 over 8.0 frames at Hudson Valley on August 25, 2015...Stuart leads all qualifiers in the  SAL, High-A, and all of Minor League Baseball in ERA (1.42)...Double-A Pensacola’s LHP Patrick Monteverde (1.93) is 2nd in the minors...The Kankakee, Ill. native leads the league in LOB% (87.4%), is 2nd in WHIP (1.04), 3rd in FIP (3.09), xFIP (3.48), and innings pitched (75.2), 4th in batting average against (.206), 6th in strikeouts (84), and 7th in strikeout rate (27.8%) and walk rate (7.6%) 

 

TURNING THE TID-E: RHP Blade Tidwell is in the midst of his best stretch of baseball in 2023...The 22-year-old has tossed 3-straight quality starts dating back to June 17 at Aberdeen...Tidwell has earned the win in all 3 outings, permitting just 2 runs on 10 hits over 20.0 innings...He has walked only 4 (5.6 BB%) and struck out 26 (36.6 K%) in those contests...He whiffed a career-high and team-season-best-matching 11 on Friday vs. Jersey Shore...This comes after tied a then-career-best with 10 strikeouts on June 11 vs. Greenville...Tidwell also whiffed 10 on May 4 vs. Aberdeen...Over his last 8 starts dating back to May 17 at Hudson Valley, Tidwell is 5-0 with a 1.34 ERA (6 ER in 40.1 IP) with just 20 hits allowed...The Loretto, Tenn. native has walked 24 and struck out 59 (36.6 K%)...Tidwell’s holding opponents to a meager .146 batting average (20-137) against him...Tidwell leads the South Atlantic League in batting average against (.146) and is 2nd in strikeouts (59) and ERA (1.34) since that date (min. 30.0 IP)...On the season, the Loretto, Tenn. native is 5th in strikeouts (86) and tied for 5th in wins (5). 

 

PITCHING IN: Since the start of a 4-game winning streak at Hudson Valley on May 17, the Cyclones’ pitching staff has, statistically, been the most dominant in Minor League Baseball...Entering Thursday, Brooklyn has posted an MiLB-low 2.72 ERA (118 ER in 390.0 IP) over their last 45 games, holding a 25-20 record in that span...The Yankees’ High-A Hudson Valley (2.73) is 2nd in the minors...The Cyclones have hurled 5 shutouts in that span and hold a strikeout rate of 27.9% and a walk rate of 11.4%...Additionally, Brooklyn pitching has permitted the fewest home runs (12), are tied for the 3rd lowest hits-per-9 innings (6.78) and opposing OPS (.599) in that time period...RHPs Blade Tidwell (1.34) and Tyler Stuart (1.62) hold the 2nd and 3rd best ERA’s in MiLB during that time (min. 40.0 IP). 

 

RELIEF READY: The Cyclones’ relief staff has been exquisite at quelling fires in 2023...Entering Thursday, Brooklyn has the best bullpen ERA (3.16) in the entire South Atlantic League, and 3rd lowest throughout Minor League Baseball...The Rangers’ Single-A Down East leads (3.09) in MiLB, while Hudson Valley (3.44) is 2nd in the circuit...RHP Paul Gervase (1.07) is 1st and RHP Wilkin Ramos (2.75) is 7th in ERA among SAL relievers (min. 30.0 IP). 

 

LICENSE TO TIL: INF Junior Tilien tallied his second home run with the Cyclones as part of a multi-hit effort on Wednesday night...The 20-year-old enters Thursday on a 5-game hitting streak dating back to June 28 vs. Jersey Shore...Tilien is 7-for-his-last-18 (.389) with 4 runs scored, 2 home runs, 5 RBI, and 2 walks. 

 

WIZARD OF OS: C Drake Osborn has been unconscious at the plate through the first 2 games of Brooklyn’s series in Wilmington...The 24-year-old has matched a career-high in hits (3) in consecutive contests to open the set...Osborn is 6-for-9 (.667) so far against the Blue Rocks with 3 runs scored, 2 RBI, and a walk...Drake is on a 3-game hitting streak dating back to Monday and is 7-for-his-last-13 (.539). 

 

GARCÍA LATER: RHP Benito García has been as reliable as any Cyclones reliever over the last month...Dating back to June 9 vs. Greenville, the 23-year-old has tallied 6-consecutive scoreless relief appearances...In 7.1 innings, García has earned a save and permitted just 6 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 7...The right-hander holds a 25.9% strikeout rate (7/27) and 3.7% walk rate (1/27) during that span...In 10 relief outings with Brooklyn in 2023, García holds a 1.26 ERA (2 ER in 14.1 IP). 

 

CAPTAIN KEVIN: C Kevin Parada tied a career-high with 3 hits on Wednesday and has picked up the pace offensively over the last few weeks...Dating back to June 6 vs. Greenville, the 21-year-old is slashing .329/.394/.600 with a .994 OPS and 166 wRC+ in 22 games...Parada has accrued 13 runs scored, 2 doubles, 3 triples, 5 home runs, 17 RBI, 8 walks, and a hit-by-pitch...The Pasadena, Calif. native had a 10-game hitting streak (15-for-39; .385/.429/.821) and a 15-game on-base streak (.333/.397/.632) snapped on Saturday...The former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket enters Wednesday 6th in the South Atlantic League in doubles (16) and hits (70) and 7th in extra-base hits (28) and total bases (115). 

 

AL-WAYS ON: OF Alex Ramírez is 3rd in the South Atlantic League in walks (20), tied for 3rd in runs scored (21), and 4th in pitches-per-plate appearance (4.168) since the beginning of June...Ramírez is scattered among the Cyclones’ all-time leaderboard despite joining the team last July 4...Entering Thursday, the Dominican native is 3rd in franchise history in RBI (69) and is 22 behind INF José Peroza (91) for the all-time mark and surpassed IF/OF Jaylen Palmer (68) for 3rd on Wednesday...He is also 3rd in doubles (29), 4th in hits (124), and 5th in total bases (185). 

 

LUGO LAND: INF William Lugo has been on a tear for Brooklyn offensively over the last 2-plus weeks...Since June 22 vs. Hudson Valley, the 21-year-old is slashing .344/.417/.750 with a 1.167 OPS and 206 wRC+ over his last 9 games...Lugo is 11-for-32 at the plate (.344) with 2 doubles, a triple, 3 home runs, 9 RBI, 3 walks, and a hit-by-pitch in that span...The Dominican native has raised his season batting average by 27 points (.181 to .208) during that time.
