Williams slugs 6th homer
ST. LUCIE METS PRESS RELEASE: PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (July 30, 2023) – The Bradenton Marauders capped a strong week of baseball at Clover Park with a 7-1 win over the St. Lucie Mets in the series finale on Sunday. The Marauders won five of six in the series (Box Score).
Bradenton starter Wilber Dotel shut out the Mets for 5.0 innings. He scattered five hits, walked two and struck out one. With Bradenton leading 1-0, Dotel got Carlos Dominguez to fly out to end the fifth to strand runners at second and third. Dotel completed the month of July allowing just one earned run over 25.2 innings (0.35 ERA).
Bradenton took the lead in the third inning without a hit. Mets starter Saul Garcia walked Deivis Nadal to start the inning. Garcia spiked a wild pitch that allowed Nadal to go first to third. An errant throw to third base by Yeral Martinez let Nadal scamper home for a 1-0 lead.
The Marauders broke the game open in the sixth inning when Nadal hit a two-out RBI single off Jimmy Loper and Jesus Castillo followed with a two-run single to make it 4-0.
Castillo added a RBI triple in the eighth 6-0 lead.
The Mets scored their only run of the game on a solo home run by Jett Williams in the bottom of the eighth. It was the six homer of the year for Williams.
Garcia took the loss for the Mets. He allowed one run on just one hit over 3.0 innings. Garcia walked four and struck out five.
Kevin Villavicencio led the Mets at the plate by going 2 for 3.
The Mets (33-62, 9-21) are off on Monday. They start a six-game road trip against the Daytona Tortugas on Tuesday. First pitch from Jackie Robinson Ballpark is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
