ST. LUCIE METS PRESS RELEASE: PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (July 28, 2023) – The Bradenton Marauders clipped the St. Lucie Mets 9-8 in a wild game at Clover Park on Friday night (Box Score).

Down 9-8 in the bottom of the ninth, the Mets loaded the bases with no outs but could not score to tie the game or earn a walk-off win. Jacob Reimer started the inning with a single and Bradenton reliever Brandan Bidois plunked Wilfredo Lara and Yohairo Cuevas to put a runner at every base.

Bidois struck out Yeral Martinez on three pitches, struck out pinch hitter Karell Paz on three pitches and retired Kevin Villavicenio on a pop up to third base to end the game and clinch the victory.

Bradenton first baseman Nick Cimillo had the go-ahead hit in the eighth inning with a leadoff home run that broke an 8-8 tie.

The Mets were seeking their biggest comeback win of the year. They trailed 6-0 in the second inning and 8-2 in the third inning.

Mets starter Felipe De La Cruz struggled in the first and second innings. He walked six batters and gave up six runs on four hits while just recording three outs. Consecutive walks with the bases loaded in the first inning put Bradenton up 2-0.

Termarr Johnson, Lonnie White, Jr. and Omar Alfonzo hit RBI singles in the second inning. Juan Jerez made it 6-0 Marauders with a ground out in the inning.

Dyron Campos slugged a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the second off Owen Kellington to make it 6-2.

The Marauders scored twice against Mets reliever Ramon Henriquez on an error and a ground out in the third that put Bradenton back up by six, 8-2.

Wilfredo Lara smashed a two-run double in the bottom of the third inning to cut the deficit to 8-4. It would be the last hit for the Mets until Reimer's leadoff single in the ninth.

The Bradenton bullpen and defense melted down in allowing the Mets to score six unanswered runs to tie the game. Julian Bosnic balked in Cuevas from third base by disengaging from the rubber three times in an at-bat in the sixth to make it 8-5.

Bosnic walked four consecutive Mets in the seventh inning and threw a wild pitch to score a run that made it 8-6. A potential double play ball off the bat of Cuevas was thrown away by shortstop Mitch Jebb and brought in two runs to tie the game 8-8.

Meanwhile, Mets reliever Jawilme Ramirez was keeping the Marauders offense at bay. Ramirez pitched the final 6.2 innings and allowed just one run on the Cimillo home run that resulted in him taking the loss. Ramirez scattered four hits, walked just one and struck out six.

Reimer reached base three times in the loss by going 1 for 3 with two walks. He's reached base in 18 of his last 26 plate appearances.

The Mets (33-60, 9-19) and Marauders (54-39, 19-9) play the fifth game of their series at Clover Park on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. There will be postgame fireworks.

Saturday is Maddie's Fight Night.
