Game Recap: Ponies Fall to Somerset in Rain-Shortened Series Opener

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (3-9, 38-43) fell to the Somerset Patriots 4-2 in a rain-shortened series opener on Friday night at Mirabito Stadium.

The game was called due to weather with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning with no one on base, Jaylen Palmer coming to the plate, and Tanner Myatt on the mound.

Somerset (6-6, 48-32) got on the board first in the first inning. Trey Sweeney led off the game with a hit and later in the inning, T.J. Rumfield drove Sweeney in on an RBI double to make it 1-0.

Binghamton tied the game 1-1 in the home half of the first. Wyatt Young led off with a walk and Jose Peroza later drove Young in with a sacrifice fly.

The Ponies took the lead in the bottom of the third when Brandon McIlwain drove in Rowdey Jordan with an RBI double that made it 2-1.

Somerset grabbed the lead back in the fourth. Sweeney and Jasson Domínguez hit back-to-back RBI singles to make it 3-2. In the sixth inning, Austin Wells hit an RBI single to give Somerset a 4-2 lead.

The game was put into a delay and later finished with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, with Somerset holding on for the 4-2 win.

The Rumble Ponies continue their three-game series with the Patriots on Saturday night. First pitch is set for 6:07 PM and pregame coverage will get underway at 5:50 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.

Postgame Notes: Tyler Thomas pitched 1.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts and has now tossed five-straight scoreless outings…Jordan had a multi-hit game with two singles and two stolen bases…Hayden Senger walked twice.
