BOX SCORE

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (August 20, 2023) - The Brooklyn Cyclones fell to the Hudson Valley Renegades Sunday afternoon at Maimonides Park, 7-1. With the loss, Brooklyn finishes its 12 game homestand with an even .500 record at 6-6. The Cyclones took four of six from Aberdeen, followed by dropping four of six to Hudson Valley.

SS Jett Williams launched a home run for the second straight day, but that was the only offense Brooklyn could muster. All told, Brooklyn was limited to only four base hits on the afternoon.

Williams’ home run was the first run of the ball game, as the 2022 first round pick took RHP Brendan Beck deep on his first pitch of the afternoon. That was the only blip on Beck’s line, who allowed just two hits and no walks over 4.2 innings.

Hudson Valley began its scoring in the top of the third. CF Spencer Jones pulled the Renegades even on his 13th home run of the season - a fly ball that just cleared the fence in left field.

The Renegades pulled in front moments later, when DH Christopher Familia notched a two run single.

Hudson Valley kept its foot on the gas pedal in the fourth. LF Jared Wegner hit the third home run of the contest - a solo shot to left - to push the Renegades lead to 4-1. Hudson Valley tacked on one more in the fourth, courtesy of a sacrifice fly from SS Alexander Vargas.

Sergio Santos’s crew put up one in the sixth and seventh as well, on RBI singles from 1B Jesus Rodriguez and RF Grant Richardson, respectively.

With Brooklyn’s loss and Jersey Shore’s win, the Cyclones and BlueClaws enter the league-wide off day on Monday in a tie for first place atop the North Division of the SAL. Both teams have identical second-half tallies of 28-20.

The Cyclones return to action Tuesday, when they began a two week road trip beginning with a trip to Asheville to take on the Tourists. Probable pitchers have yet to be announced on either side. First pitch from McCormick Field is slated for 6:35 p.m.
