Locastro doubles, Uceta pitches scoreless first in rehab appearances
ST. LUCIE METS PRESS RELEASE: DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 6, 2023) – The Daytona Tortugas defeated the St. Lucie Mets 5-4 in 10 inning on Sunday evening at Jackie Robinson Ballpark (Box Score).
After the Mets did not score the free runner from second base in the top of the 10th, the Tortugas were poised to get the walk-off win in the bottom of the inning. The Mets intentionally walked the leadoff hitter to put runners on first and second. Elliot Johnstone then walked Hector Rodriguez on four pitches to load the bases. Johnstone then walked Sal Stewart on a 3-2 pitch that forced in the winning run.
The Mets had a great chances to take the lead late in the game. Vincent Perozo tied the game 4-4 in the bottom of the eighth with a double. He advanced to third base on a wild pitch with no one out. However, Joseph Menefee struck out Nick Lorusso, got Carlos Dominguez out on a comebacker and struck out Christian Pregent to strand Perozo at third base.
Kevin Villavicencio hit a one a one-out double in the ninth inning but the Mets couldn't bring him home for the lead.
In the 10th inning Menefee got a shallow fly out, ground out and strikeout to strand Diego Mosquera on third base. The Mets went 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position after Perozo's game-tying double.
Nick Morabito went 3 for 5 to extend his hitting streak to five games.
Tim Locastro (thumb) went 1 for 3 with a double and a hit-by-pitch in his second MLB rehab game. He played seven innings in right field.
Edwin Uceta (knee) pitched a perfect first inning in his first MLB rehab start. He only needed eight pitches.
The Tortugas took four of six in the series.
The Mets (35-66, 11-25) are off on Monday. They return to the diamond on Tuesday when they start a 12-game, 13-day home stand at Clover Park. First up is a six-game series against the Palm Beach Cardinals. First pitch on Tuesday is 6:10 p.m.
