Press Release: Mets Officially Re-sign RHP Adam Ottavino "The New York Mets today announced the club has re-signed right-handed pitcher Adam Ottavino to a one-year contract. In a corresponding move, catcher Tyler Heineman has been designated for assignment.  The Mets had claimed Heineman off waivers frim the Toronto Blue Jays on December 1, 2023."

SNY.TV: Mets sign INF Jose Rondon to minor league contract. Rondon last played in the majors in 2021 as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals. That season, he slashed .263/.322/.413 with three home runs and nine RBI in 63 games...The 29-year-old launched 17 home runs in the winter league this offseason..."  According to FanGraphs, he has no Minor League Options left.

1947 - Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan is born in Refugio, Texas. Ryan will make his major league debut in 1966 with the New York Mets, kicking off a major league record 27-year career. He will win 324 games with the Mets, California AngelsHouston Astros, and Texas Rangers.

1962 - The Mets sign former slugger Ralph Kiner, who joins Lindsey Nelson and Bob Murphy in the announcing booth.

1969The National Association approves the use of the Designated  Hitter for the InternationalEastern,   Texas and New York-Pennsylvania leagues. The rules vary slightly for each league. The Texas League will be the first to use the DH, in April. The American and National leagues agree to try experimental rule change in spring training using a designated pinch hitter, but they don't agree on the implementation. The AL tells the teams to use the DPH when they are the home team; the NL gives the home manager the choice of which rules to use, but the visiting manager has to agree. The MetsGiants, and Cardinals say that they will not use the rules, and the Astros and Reds follow suit.
