Good Morning. Francisco Alvarez and Starling Marte talk to the Press and David Stearns believes the Mets are a playoff team.

NY Post: Mets now counting on Francisco Alvarez with much higher expectations. Alvarez has deemed his throwing an area in which he needs to improve. Last season he threw out 15 of 99 (13 percent) runners attempting to steal against him. The MLB average was 19 percent. To that end, Alvarez is working this spring on throwing from a more upright position. 'Last year, I was not that good [throwing] and I want to get better with that,' Alvarez said. 'I am working on the transfer and moving my feet and I want to use my two feet up when I throw to second base. Last year I used one knee down and it was a little bit harder.'”
David Lennon Newsday: Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez's maturity belies his birth certificate. "Seeing him around Clover Park during the first week of camp, Alvarez already carries himself like a 10-year veteran. Not in a cocky way, but someone who knows where they’re going."
NY Post: Mets’ Starling Marte feels healthy enough to play right field every day: ‘Big weapon’. "Marte is still viewed as a full-time right fielder, according to [Mets Mangar Carlos] Mendoza. 'This guy is special, he can impact the game and help you win in a lot of different ways,' Mendoza said. 'Whether it’s on defense, base running, offensively, he brings a lot to the table. If he’s back to being the player we know he can be, it’s a big weapon for us.'”
Jon Heyman NY Post: David Stearns truly believes he’s built a ‘playoff-caliber’ Mets team. “'We are a playoff-caliber team,' Stearns asserted...'I think it’s a talented group, and I think it was a talented group last year,' Stearns said. 'And I think the players certainly feel the results on the field last year were not indicative of the talent in the clubhouse.'”
"Great team, everybody knows that. When we step on the field on Opening Day, we'll show what we got."

- The player on each team with the most to prove in Spring Training - For the Mets it is Brett Baty - "Despite his struggles throughout 2023, which included a demotion to Triple-A, Baty enters Spring Training penciled in as the Mets’ third baseman. To hang onto that job, he must prove that he can handle the speed of the Major League game -- an issue for Baty both at the plate and on defense last season."
