Brian Joura Mets360: “The Mets scored in each of their last five innings to earn a 7-6, come-from-behind victory over the Rangers Tuesday night in Texas. It was the seventh-straight win for the Mets and moved them to within two games of .500 at 35-37.”

John Flanigan SNY.TV: "Luis Severino came into the night coming off a strong outing at home against the Marlins...The Rangers jumped on the right-hander for five runs, four of which came on home runs from Josh Smith and rookie Wyatt Langford. He rebounded to retire the next four hitters to close out his outing after 6.1 innings, but the damage was done."

NY Post Mets rally past Rangers for thrilling seventh consecutive win “Francisco Alvarez’s two-run double in the eighth against David Robertson tied it before the Mets (35-37) got an unearned run in the ninth with help from a catcher’s interference by Jonah Heim.  The interference with J.D. Martinez at the plate wasn’t initially called, but the Mets challenged and won a replay review. Alonso followed with a double to left that scored Nimmo, who had reached on a walk to begin the rally.”

Tim Healey Newsday: "After the penultimate play of the Mets’ 7-6, come-from-behind win over the Rangers on Tuesday night, Brandon Nimmo practically floated from leftfield to second base. Jose Iglesias had just turned a key double play for the first two outs in the bottom of the ninth...Davis Wendzel, freshly into the game as a pinch runner, slid hard into second — and into Iglesias. The runner’s left knee caught the fielder’s left ankle/foot. Iglesias flipped into the air and hit the ground...Iglesias said. 'When I looked up and I saw Nimmo there, it means the world to me. He’s a great teammate, but that right there was special.'

  • Tim Healey Mets' Jett Williams aiming for fall league after wrist surgery. "If he returns before the end of the season, it would be a pleasant surprise, he said. His goal is to get back on the field during the Arizona Fall League.  'There’s no rush to get back at this point,' Williams, wearing a brace, said Tuesday afternoon at Globe Life Field. 'You want it healthy and you want to be at the best of your ability for next year, or when I go play in the fall league.'”

1963

At Yankee Stadium, the Mayor's Trophy Game is revived, with the cellar-dwelling Mets beating the mighty Yanks, 6-2. Before leaving for the West Coast, the Dodgers would play the Bronx Bombers in the annual midsummer exhibition contest to raise money for sandlot baseball teams.

1989

Dwight Gooden, with the Mets' 5-3 victory over the Expos, wins his 100th career game. Doc's 100-37 career total at the century mark is second only to Hall of Famer Whitey Ford's 100-36 start with the Yankees in 1958.

2003

During a College World Series contest against Stanford, a pitch strikes Cal State Fullerton shortstop Justin Turner on the left side of his face as he attempts to bunt. Then, adding insult to injury, the future Mets infielder also suffers a broken ankle when he unsuccessfully tries to avoid getting hit by the 87-mph fastball thrown by Matt Manship.

2007

On the bus ride to Shea Stadium to take on the Mets in an interleague contest, Twins' color commentator Bert Blyleven says he will have his head shaved if tonight's starter, Johan Santana, throws a complete-game shutout. The left-hander from Venezuela will shave the broadcaster's head after going the distance in Minnesota's 9-0 victory over New York's National League team.

Baseball Reference:

1971 - At Shea Stadium, the Mets defeat the Phillies, 6 - 5, in 15 innings. Ken Singleton homers in the 14th inning to re-tie the game and Donn Clendenon homers in the 15th to win it.

2016 - In one of the rare highlights for the Braves this season, Julio Teheran pitches a one-hitter for a 6 - 0 win as the Braves complete a three-game sweep of the Mets at Citi Field. Michael Conforto's 3rd-inning single is the only baserunner for New York, while the resurgent Freddie Freeman matches a career-high with four hits for Atlanta.

2017 - Rookie 1B Cody Bellinger hits a pair of homers in the Dodgers' 10 - 6 win over the Mets. In doing so, he overtakes both Wally Berger (in 1930) and Gary Sanchez (in 2016), who had hit 20 homers in their first 51 major league games, as he now has 21 long balls. That total leads the National League even though Bellinger spent the first three weeks of the season in the minors.
