From the Mets 2 Blue Jays 1 Post Game Notes - 4/6/2025
- Mets:
- The Mets picked up their first sweep of the season and it was their first sweep of the Blue Jays since July 15-17, 2001...The victory extended New York’s winning streak to four games, a season-high...The Mets are three games over .500 for the first time this season...They move to 3-0 at home this season...It is the first time the Mets have won their first three home games since 2015 when they won their first 10 home games of the season.
- The Mets have a major league-leading 1.91 ERA (17 ER/80.0 IP) through the teams' first nine games...Is the fourth-best mark in franchise history through the team’s first nine games of the season behind the 1968 team (1.44), the 1971 team (1.58) and the 1985 squad (1.73).
- Mets relievers have combined to post a 1.29 ERA (5 ER/35.0 IP) this season...They have allowed just two of 20 inherited runners to score.
- Mets pitchers have recorded 84 strikeouts this season, the seventh-most strikeouts through the first nine games of a season in franchise history (98K in 2018, 96K in 2022, 94K in 2019, 91K in 2019 and 2021 and 85K in 2016).
- Max Kranick:
- Earned his first win of the season after stranding three inherited runners in the fifth inning and tossing a perfect sixth...Marked his third career win and first since September 26, 2021 at Philadelphia...This season, he has stranded all six of his inherited runners, tying teammate Reed Garrett for the most inherited runners stranded in the majors.
- Extended his career-high scoreless inning streak to 12.0 IP (since: 5/7/22 at Cincinnati with Pittsburgh), including 7.0 innings pitched this season…Has retired 21 of 22 batters faced this season, holding his opponents to a .045 average.
- Reed Garrett:
- Pitched a scoreless seventh inning in relief and has now held his opponents scoreless in all four of his appearances this season...Dating back to August 28, 2024 he held his opponents scoreless in 15 of his last 16 appearances (15.0 IP) and has held opponents to a .176 batting average (9-51).
- Pete Alonso:
- Hit an RBI single in the third inning to give the Mets a 1-0 lead...He now has 11 RBI in his last six games (since 3/31)...He is one of 11 players in franchise history to record at least 11 RBI through the team’s first nine games of a season and is the only player in franchise history to do so multiple times (also: 2019, ‘22).
- Juan Soto:
- Drew a walk in the third and extended his on-base streak to nine...Also doubled in the seventh..Is his longest on-base streak to start a season.
Brian Joura Mets360: "The Mets’ bullpen threw 4.1 IP of scoreless ball, allowing just one hit, leading the Mets to a 2-1 victory over the Blue Jays Sunday at Citi Field, completing a sweep of the three-game series. It was the fourth-straight win for the Mets, pushing their record to 6-3 on the year."
Mike Puma NY Post: Mets’bullpen dominates again to finish off sweep of Blue Jays. “The Mets managed
only 10 runs in sweeping the three games…Pete Alonso, who blasted three homers
for the week, delivered an RBI single in the third that produced the game’s
first run. Brandon Nimmo’s ensuing sacrifice fly gave the Mets a 2-0 lead.”
Newsday: "Max Kranick picked up his first big-league win since 2021 with 1 1⁄3 perfect innings in relief of Peterson. Kranick was followed by Reed Garrett and A.J. Minter, who each threw a scoreless frame, and Edwin Diaz, who worked around a pair of hit batsmen in the ninth by getting Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to ground into a forceout for his second save."
Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: "The bullpen was taxed already after a close game Friday and an extra-inning contest Saturday night. Right-hander Ryne Stanek was unavailable after warming up three times Saturday, and so was Huascar Brazobán, who pitched 2 1/3 innings in the second game of the series to bridge the gap to closer Edwin Diaz in a tie game."
Mets’ David Peterson scare was just nausea in sign of relief.
“David Peterson bent over behind the mound in Sunday’s fifth inning, giving the
appearance of perhaps a back ailment. To the Mets’ relief, the left-hander
merely was dealing with nausea... Peterson said he was examined by team medical
personnel but didn’t have any additional symptoms.”
David Lennon Newsday: Mets have retained their winning vibefrom last season. “But these Mets, just like the post-Memorial Day marauders
from last season, already have displayed the same winning knack for keeping
things together. The difference this year? The vibe is immaculate from the
jump, and much to the delight of owner Steve Cohen, there’s been way more fans
in the building to enjoy the Mets’ 6-3 start (a light-year leap from the 0-5
kickoff at Citi Field last April).”
