Top Mets pitching prospect Matt Allan consistently brought the heat in his Grapefruit League debut today, sitting 96-97 mph with his fastball. Ran into some bad luck in allowing 2 runs/4 hits, but also got multiple swings and misses on his four-seamer.

Asked about his sweet left-handed swing, Mets prospect Brett Baty invoked the names Freddie Freeman and Adam Dunn.

Thosar NY Daily News: “Over the past two games alone, the Mets have
committed seven errors in the field. The club has amassed 10 errors overall in
their seven exhibition games...In one of their latest defensive blunders
Monday, J.D. Davis was in the shift between first and second when Alex Avila
knocked a grounder right at him. Davis scooped the ball but threw behind first
baseman Mark Vientos. Rojas said Davis was in position and he rushed the play.
It was only the fourth inning, but Davis’ fielding error cost the Mets their
third unearned run of the afternoon.”

Post: Mets in talks with Maikel Franco after Jose Martinez freak injury. “If
the Mets were to sign the 28-year-old Franco,
it could give them another candidate for the third-base job, albeit one who is
challenged defensively. Last season
Franco was minus-one in outs above average as a third baseman, according to
Statcast, placing him in the 24th percentile in MLB. In 2019 he was minus-five
in outs above average as a third baseman. Franco…slashed .278/.321/.457 with
eight homers and 38 RBIs in 60 games last season.”
ICYMI, the Mets expect to begin Francisco Lindor extension talks this week.

On Baseball: Whatever Mets manager Luis Rojas has to do to keep Dominic
Smith in the lineup – he’d better do it. The Mets’ purest hitter must play
every day.
