In relation to St. Patrick’s Day and the Mets I found this note from Amazing Avenue 2013: Being St. Patrick's Day, let's salute the players with McNames that have worked their way into the Mets record books. That includes some well-known men like Kevin McReynoldsTug McGrawRoy McMillan.

Mets 8 Astros 3 (Box Score). Brandon Nimmo CF 1 for 4, 1 run scored, 1 K; Francisco Lindor SS 2 for 3, HR, 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored, 1 walk; Dominic Smith LF 1 for 3, HR, 3 RBIs, 1 run scored;  Pete Alonso 1B 3 for 3 with a HR, double, walk, a run scored, 1 RBI;  Michael Conforto DH 1 for 4; Jeff McNeil 2B 1 for 4, double, 1 K;  J.D. Davis 3B 0 for 3 with a walk and a run scored; James McCann C 1 for 4, 1 K; Kevin Pillar RF 0 for 3 with a walk and a run scored; Jacob deGrom 4 innings, 2 hits, 1 HR, 1 run – earned, 6 Ks; Jeurys Familia, 1 inning, no runs, 1 hit, 2 walks;  Dellin Betances 1 inning, 2 hits, 2 runs – both earned, 1 K; Trevor May 1 inning, no runs, 1 walk, 3 Ks; Miguel Castro, 1 inning, no hits, no runs, 2 Ks; Sam McWilliams, 1 inning, no runs, no hits, 1 walk, 1 K.

NY Post: Jacob deGrom is making 100 mph his Mets norm. In regards to Jacob’s start on Tuesday Mike Puma noted: “Overall, he threw 11 pitches that registered at least 100 mph on the stadium scoreboard. He topped out at 101 on a fastball to Bregman in the first inning. In that inning, eight of deGrom’s 11 fastballs reached 100 mph.”

Mets.Com: After latest stellar start, deGrom ready to hit. “The Mets intend to have deGrom become their first pitcher to hit in roughly a year during his next outing, Sunday against the Nationals…’I guess I’m excited to hit,’ deGrom said laughing. ‘I’d probably be more excited if I had a little practice with it, so I’d better get in the cage this week.’”

Newsday: Mets may shield Jacob deGrom from Nationals. “On Sunday, deGrom indeed will face Washington, manager Luis Rojas said. That is the day the Mets plan to start letting their pitchers hit in games. But Rojas left the door open for deGrom to get his final spring-training tune-up in an intrasquad scrimmage instead of facing the Nationals on March 26, a night game at Clover Park…’I feel like if we can get the work done and not give them an extra look, then it only benefits the pitcher,’ deGrom said. ‘The more looks a batter has against you, the hitter has seen you more, it’s a positive for them, not necessarily for me.’"

Mike Vaccaro NY Post: Francisco Lindor talking baseball makes us crave Opening Day even more. “He is an old-school player with an old soul, one who admires players he watched when he was a kid, and players from before he was born whom he’s heard about. He says it was a ‘better-rounded’ game then. ‘It was a better-played game then,’ he said.”

NY Post: Mets running out of time with Francisco Lindor talks ‘nothing serious’.

The Brooklyn Trolley Blogger: Grapefruit League offers Dellin Betances No Quarter. It's not a stretch at this point to say the future career of reliever Dellin Betances potentially lies in the balance.
