Mike Puma NY Post Sports+: Can the Mets’ depth of rotation talent make up for their lack of an unquestioned ace? "For a team that came within two victories of reaching the World Series last season the natural inclination might have been to splurge on an ace with the idea that was the missing piece. But Stearns and team owner Steve Cohen have been steadfast in preaching the importance of sustainability over instant gratification." (Subscription Required)

Regarding Alonso, this is classic Boras: get the preferred team with the best offer to make a take-it-or-leave-it pitch, shop it around, then circle back to push that team to budge enough to seal a deal. It’s how he used to play the Yankees. Now it’s the Mets.
