Brian Heyman Newsday: Mets take rubber game vs. Padres to close homestand. "Brandon Nimmo delivered three hits and two RBIs, Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso cracked homers and Tylor Megill and four relievers teamed on a six-hitter."
Brian Joura Mets 360: "The Mets fell behind by two runs before they came to bat. But they pecked away, scoring a single run in five different innings, and came away with a 5-2 win, taking the series against the Padres in the process."
From the Mets 5 Padres 2 - Post Game Notes:
- Mets: Won their first series against the Padres since they took two out of three from San Diego at Citi Field from June 11 - 13, 2021.
- Tylor Megill (5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K): Moves to 7-0 in eight career April starts, the most wins in the month over the last two years...Has allowed two or fewer runs in seven of those starts as well as three or fewer hits in five of those starts. Is one of five pitchers with three wins this season.
- Francisco Lindor (1-4, HR, RBI, R): Lined a game-tying home run to lead off the third.
- Pete Alonso (2-3, HR, RBI, 2 R, BB): Hit his major league-leading sixth home run in the fifth...Was his 66th career home run at Citi Field, tied with Michael Conforto for the second-most in the ballpark's history.
- Brandon Nimmo (3-5, 2B, 2 RBI): Put the Mets on the board with an RBI double in the second...Is batting .353 (6-17) against left-handed pitchers this season and owns a .417 (5-12) career batting average against Blake Snell.

Metstradamus: All Or Nothing Or Nothing At All. "Tylor Megill [(W, 2-0)] was at least the beneficiary of the “all or nothing” lineup, but he probably made a lot of it happen by his own accord. He threw another 5 and a 1/3 of scoreless ball to help the Mets hold the Phillies long enough so that the offense can take the lead."

Mets bang out 15 hits and 16 runs in Minnesota to back Jon Niese (W,2-0) who allowed, 5 hits, 4 walks, 5 runs - 4 earned over 5 innings. John Buck had the big blow in the game with a grand slam in the 2nd to give the Mets a 10-2 lead at the time.
NY Post: Buck, Mets bats get hot in cold Minnesota. "With temperature at first pitch 34 degrees and flurries falling — after five inches of snow was removed from the ballpark on Thursday — the Mets convincingly snapped a two-game skid. Buck’s fifth career grand slam — a laser into the mezzanine seats in left field in the second inning off Pedro Hernandez — gave Jon Niese an eight-run lead, a needed cushion on a night the lefty struggled with his command."

National Pastime.com: In a humiliating 9–8 extra-inning loss against the Phillies, the Mets blow a three-run lead in the bottom of the ninth, thanks, in part, to Keith Hernandez's error allowing the leadoff batter to reach base, opening the floodgates to Philadelphia's comeback. Six years, the New York first baseman's Veterans Stadium miscue (albeit placed in the wrong season and different venue) becomes the background of a conspiracy theory detailed in an hour-long Seinfeld episode, The Boyfriend.

After a just one minor league season, and a strong Spring Training, Mets Manager Joe Torre convinced Mets GM Frank Cashen to let Tim Leary start the season with the big club.
UPI.com: “Tim Leary, the New York Mets' rookie right-hander who has been tabbed the 'next Tom Seaver,' Tuesday was placed on the 21-day disabled list by the National League club.
Leary, 22, sustained a muscle strain of his right elbow in his major-league debut April 12 against the Cubs in Chicago and left the game after pitching two scoreless innings.”
ESPN.com: “The headlines hyped Leary as “Tim Terrific” since New York was starved for an ace after the trade of Tom Seaver to the Reds in 1977. Unfortunately, the Mets made the mistake of giving Leary his major league debut on an unpleasant, chilly April 12, 1981, at Wrigley Field. Starting on the road toned down the hype, but didn’t provide the most pleasant pitching conditions. Leary struck out the first two hitters he faced but left after two innings with an injury to a muscle in his forearm, one that may have come from too much weightlifting.”
After Tim left, Pete Falcone threw 5 scoreless innings, Jeff Reardon walked 2 and Neil Allen allowed one of those to score to knot the game at 1-1. Mike Cubbage knocked in the game winning run in the top of the 9th on a sacrifice fly that scored Hubie Brooks.
