Tim Healey Newsday: Mets explode for 16 runs to complete series win in Atlanta. "They wrecked Atlanta, 16-4, to take a second of three games this week, registering their first series victory in this city since July 2022. Last year, the Mets totaled three wins in 13 games against the perennial NL East champions. This year, they have two wins in three games."

Brian Joura Mets360: "The Mets’ bats came alive in the series in Atlanta, combining for 39 hits and 29 runs in the three-game set."

NY Post: Mets trounce rival Braves with unrelenting offensive outburst. “'They had our number last year and a lot of guys in this clubhouse remember that,' said DJ Stewart, who blasted his second homer of the series as part of the Mets’ 16-hit attack. 'We play them a lot more, but this was a good start to see.'”

NY Post: Mets’ Tyler Jay makes long-awaited MLB debut after allergic condition put career on hold. "Diagnosed five years ago with an allergic condition that inflamed his esophagus and caused his weight to plummet, Jay — a first-round draft pick by the Twins in 2015 — placed his pitching career on hold...Jay spent two seasons with [Independent Team] Joliet before he was signed by the Mets and assigned to Triple-A Syracuse. He was selected to the roster on Wednesday to provide the Mets with bullpen depth."

Tim Healey Newsday: Mets' good and bad through first two weeks of the season. "Baty looks like he belongs. That wasn’t the case last season. He leads the Mets with a .311 average to go with his .732 OPS, including more than handling his own against lefthanders, and has made all of the defensive plays you’d expect plus some you wouldn’t...He and Alvarez, who is batting .297 with an .819 OPS, have been the team’s steadiest and all-around best players."

1962

In front of 40,000 fans, the expansion Mets are honored with a ticker-tape parade up lower Broadway. The players, wearing their brand new home uniforms, along with broadcasters and other officials ride in open convertibles, throwing plastic baseballs to the enthusiastic crowd as they drive by.

1986

In a humiliating 9–8 extra-inning loss against the Phillies, the Mets blow a three-run lead in the bottom of the ninth, thanks, in part, to Keith Hernandez's error allowing the leadoff batter to reach base, opening the floodgates to Philadelphia's comeback. Six years, the New York first baseman's Veterans Stadium miscue (albeit placed in the wrong season and different venue) becomes the background of a conspiracy theory detailed in an hour-long Seinfeld episode, The Boyfriend.

2009

A pair of tickets for the Mets home opener at Citi Field, with a face value of $525 apiece, is auctioned off for $7,500 on eBay. The ducats were owned by Bernard Madoff, who is in jail after pleading guilty last month to defrauding investors, including Mets owner Fred Wilpon, in a $65 billion Ponzi scheme.
