Year: 2023; Game # 16; Sunday, Apr 16; NYM 4 @ OAK 3;  10 innings; ; boxscore;; WP: Yacabonis;; LP: Moll;; Save: Robertson; Time: 3:03; DAY; Attendance: 17,645; Record: 10-6; Standings: 2; Games up/behind: 2; W

Francisco Lindor SS 1 for 4, HR (#4), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk; Pete Alonso 1B 1 for 4, HR (#8), 1 run scored, 1 RBI, 1 walk, 2 Ks; Tommy Pham LF 1 for 3, HR (#2), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk; Jose Butto 5 innings, 1 run - earned, 5 hits, 4 walks, 2 Ks; John Curtiss 1 ining, 2 runs - both earned, 2 hits, 2 walks, 1 K; Jimmy Yacabonis 1 inning, no runs, 1 hit, 1 walk, 1 K; David Robertson (S,4) no runs, no hits;

Brian Joura Mets 360: "After using power in regulation, the Mets cranked up the wild pitch offense to push across the go-ahead run in the 10th and held on to defeat the A’s, 4-3, and earn a sweep of the three-game series...The go-ahead run scored on a ball four wild pitch to Lindor.

Tim Healey Newsday: Mets sweep A's after Pete Alonso's MLB-best eighth HR ties it in ninth. "...Tommy Pham and Francisco Lindor homered off JP Sears (six innings, two runs). Pete Alonso’s majors-leading eighth homer tied the score with one out in the top of the ninth. Jimmy Yacabonis, making his Mets debut in the bottom of the ninth, put his first two batters on but retired the next three."

Mets.com: Nimmo makes game-saving grab as Mets win in extras. "One day after collecting a pair of knocks and driving in the winning run late in Saturday's win, Nimmo made his biggest impact in the field on Sunday, laying out for a pair of spectacular diving plays in center field, including a game-saving grab in the ninth inning."

Mike Puma NY Post: Buck Showalter ‘proud’ of effort from Mets’ call-up Jose Butto. "...the right-hander gave the Mets a chance Sunday by allowing one run over five innings...Butto endured plenty of traffic — he allowed five hits and walked four — but managed to avoid serious damage...'I’m really proud of Butto today — that was delivered in a time of need,' manager Buck Showalter said."

Metstradamus: "Could Robertson get the save without putting the rest of the bullpen in jeopardy and driving Mets fans crazy? Well, yes. but not without the part where Mets fans were driven crazy. He hit Shea Langeliers, then he fielded Ryan Noda’s bunt and got the force at third, but not without double clutching and putting visions in our heads of the ball rolling all the way through the Yellowstone sized foul territory. Then, he threw a wild pitch to put the two runners on second and third and forced the Mets to bring the infield in. But Conner Capel’s grounder went right to Alonso for the second out without the runner breaking for home, and then Esteury Ruiz grounded out to third to end the game, end the series, and say good bye to all the possum."

Jeff McNeil LF 2 for 3, 1 run scored, 1 walk; Starling Marte RF 1 for 3, HR, 2 RBIs, 1 run scored, 1 walk; Francisco Lindor SS 0 for 3, 1 walk; Pete Alonso 1B 0 for 4; Carlos Carrasco 5 innings, no runs, 3 hits, 2 walks, 8 Ks; Joely Rodriguez (L, 0-1) 1 inning, 1 run - earned, 1 hit, 2 Ks; Seth Lugo 2 runs - both earned, 2 hits, 1 HR, 1 walk, 2 Ks;

Metstradamus: Lugo? More Like Lu-Gone (I’ll See Myself Out). "Joely Rodriguez took the loss on Saturday as the Diamondbacks hung tough and surprised the Mets with a 3-2 victory. But in reality, it was Seth Lugo’s outing that should be some cause for concern going forward in the immediate future."

Brian Joura Mets360: "The Mets got another good outing from a starting pitcher. But a leaky bullpen and an offense that was missing in action for most of the game led to a 3-2 loss to the Diamondbacks Saturday afternoon in Citi Field."

The opener is delayed by two hours as an 8-inch snowfall has to be removed from the field, with Colorado owner Dick Monfort pitching in by manning a shovel, and the day concludes when Jordan Pacheco singles home the winning run in the 10th inning of the second game, for a 9 - 8 win. The Rockies also win the opener, 8 - 4, as the games are played in frigid conditions and occasional snow flurries. Reporters quip that there are more snowmen than fans at Coors Field.
