Year: 2023; Game # 17; Monday, Apr 17; NYM 8 @ LAD 6; boxscore; WP: Peterson; LP: Vesia; Save: Ottavino; Time: 2:50; NIGHT; Attendance: 50,313; Record: 11-6; Standings: 2; Games up/behind: 2; W

Brandon Nimmo CF 3 for 5, double, 1 run scored, 1 K; Pete Alonso 1B 3 for 5, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 K;  Jeff McNeil 2B 3 for 5, 2 doubles, 1 RBI, 1 run scoredDaniel Vogelbach DH 1 for 2, HR (1), 3 RBIs, 1 run scored; Brett Baty 3B 1 for 4, 1 RBI, 1 K; David Peterson (W,1-2) 6 innings, 6 runs - all earned, 7 hits, 3 HRs, 6 Ks; Brooks Raley 1.2 innings, no runs, 2 hits, 2 Ks; Drew Smith 1/3 inning, no runs, no hits, 1 K; Adam Ottavino (S,2) 1 inning, no runs, no hits;

Brian Joura Mets360: "The Mets used 14 hits to come from behind three separate times and defeat the Dodgers, 8-6, Monday night in L.A. It was the fifth straight win for the Mets, who are now 11-6 on the season."

Metstradamus: "Daniel Vogelbach drove in three runs and returning hero Brett Baty gave May a tough at-bat in the fourth by fouling off three pitches after being down 0-2 and driving in the 5th run of the game. The Mets were ambushing May early in the count and got eight hits in 5 and 2/3’s innings off a guy who came into the game with a WHIP of 0.764."

Mike Puma NY Post: "Vogelbach launched a two-run homer against Dustin May in the second inning of the Mets’ 8-6 victory over Dodgers. The blast was Vogelbach’s first this season. Vogelbach serves as the DH against right-handed pitching. He entered play with a .174/.387/.217 slash line with three RBIs."

John Coppinger Kiner's Korner: Mets get lots of offense and one huge out to beat Dodgers. "[Drew] Smith came in for Brooks Raley, who was good in his own right by pitching 1 and 2/3's innings before giving up a bloop single to Freddie Freeman and a long double to James Outman. But Smith came into face Miguel Vargas with the tying runs in scoring position and struck him out on three pitches."

Year: 2022; Game#10; Sunday  Apr 17, NYM 5 Vs. ARI 0; boxscore;  WP: Shreve; LP: Ramirez; Time: 2:59; DAY; Attendance: 24,515;  Record: 7-3; Standings: 1; Games up/behind: up 2.5; W;

MLB.com: "The Mets have won seven of their first 10 games under Showalter. It was a scoreless game until the bottom of the sixth inning...With Alonso on first and right-hander Noé Ramirez on the mound, Eduardo Escobar notched a single to right field. Alonso hustled all the way to third while Escobar made it to second on a throwing error from D-backs right fielder Pavin Smith. That error allowed Alonso to score and break the scoreless tie. Ramirez quickly exited in favor of southpaw Oliver Pérez. After Dominic Smith walked, J.D. Davis singled to left field to score Escobar and move Smith to third. A sacrifice fly from James McCann plated Smith and made it a three-run game."

Brian Joura Mets360: "The D’Backs were going to appeal the previous play, thinking that Smith left too early. But Davis went to steal second base during the appeal. The rule says that you can’t appeal after a play has been made. Davis – or whoever sent him – was willing to have him be the third out to maintain the third run on the scoreboard. The D’Backs eventually let Davis take the bag and threw to third base. But Smith was ruled not to have left early. The Mets were not able to score Davis after the stolen base but it remained a heady play."

Year: 2021; Game#10; Saturday  Apr 17 (1) NYM 4 @ ;COL; 3; boxscore; 7 innings;  WP: deGrom;  LP: Bard;  Save: Diaz; Time: 2:27; DAY;  Record: 7-3; Standings: 1; Games up/behind: up 1.5; W;

Brandon Nimmo CF 2 for 3; Francisco Lindor SS 1 for 4 with an RBI; Pete Alonso 1B 2 for 4, run scored, 2 RBIs, 2 Ks; Michael Conforto RF 2 for 3; Jacob deGrom (W,1-1)  1 for 2 with run scored; 6 innings, 3 hits, 3 runs – none earned, 1 walk, 14 Ks, 1 HR; Edwin Diaz (S,1) 1 inning, no runs, no hits, no walks, 3 Ks.

Year: 2021; Game#11; Saturday  Apr 17 (2) NYM 2 @ COL 7; boxscore; 7 innings;  WP: Marquez;  LP: Lucchesi; Time: 2:11; NIGHT; Attendance: 13,906;  Record: 7-4; Standings: 1; Games up/behind: up 1.5; L;

Brandon Nimmo LF 1 for 3, run scored; Jeff McNeil 2B 1 for 3, 2 RBIs; 2 for 3; Joey Lucchesi (L,0-1) 3 innings, 4 hits, 3 runs – all earned, 3 Ks;

Mike Puma New York Post: Mets didn’t let Jacob deGrom down this time but couldn’t sweep. "Francisco Lindor’s RBI single against Josh Bard in the seventh inning of Game 1 brought in the go-ahead run on a day when deGrom struck out 14 batters. That included nine straight, from the second through fourth innings: one short of the MLB record established by Tom Seaver on April 22, 1970, against the Padres...In the nightcap, Jacob Barnes allowed a three-run homer to Josh Fuentes in the fifth that buried the Mets in a 7-2 hole. The Mets scored their runs in the fourth on McNeil’s two-run double against German Marquez, who allowed two hits and two walks over seven innings."

Year: 2019; Game #18; Wednesday;  Apr 17, NYM 2 @ PHI; 3; boxscore;  WP: Arrieta; LP: Wheeler; Save: Neris; Time: 02:52; DAY; Attendance: 39,861; Record: 10-8; Standings: 2; Games up/behind: 1.5; L;

Zack Wheeler (L,1-2) allowed 3 runs while the Mets couldn't score against Jake Arrieta.  Michael Conforto broke through with a home run in the 7th.  Amed Rosario single in a run in the 9th as the Mets loaded the bases with the tying run at 3rd and 2 out but Hector Neris K'd Keon Broxton as the Mets fell 3-2.

NY Post: Zack Wheeler can’t solve all of Mets’ problems in loss to Phillies. A day after Steven Matz failed to record an out in his abysmal start, Wheeler brought stability back to a rotation that had also received lackluster performances from Jason Vargas, Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard in the last week...Zack Wheeler throwing seven solid innings. Not so normal, at least for this season, was the team’s lack of offense...The Mets lost two of three games in the series and fell to 3-4 on the road trip.

Year: 2018; Game #16; Tuesday;  Apr 17, NYM 2  Vs. WSN; 5; boxscore;   WP: Gonzalez;  LP: Wheeler;  Save: Doolittle; Time: 03:11; NIGHT; Attendance: 22,724; Record: 12-4; Standings: 1; Games up/behind: up 2.0; L;

Nationals built a 3-0 lead against Zach Wheeler in the 4th before the Mets came back with 2 in the 5th on a Asdrubal Cabrera Sac Fly and Yoenis Cespedes Groundout.  Nationals added two against Robert Gsellman in the 7th and 8th.

New York Post: What Zack Wheeler did without ‘best stuff’ impressed Mets. "Even without his best stuff in his second start of the season, Zack Wheeler gave the Mets what they needed. He kept them in the game. He went six innings, not incredibly deep but not a cameo either, so the bullpen wasn’t needed too soon."

NY Post: Mets lose to Braves; Santana struggles. "'I felt fine [physically],' Santana said after his shortest career start of 1 1/3 innings helped sink the Mets in a 9-3 loss to the Braves at Turner Field. 'It was a rough one. They made me throw a lot of pitches and even though I felt good, that’s one of those days things didn’t work out the way I wanted.'"

Johan Santana gave up 6 runs - 4 earned in just 1.1 innings of work.  Freddie Freeman and Tyler Pastornicky each doubled as part of the 4 hits and 1 walk that Johan allowed.

Dillon Gee gave up just 1 run in 5.2 innings and 4 Mets relief pitchers, Chris CapuanoR.A. DickeyJason Isringhausen, and Francisco Rodriguez just one more as the Mets beat the Braves in Atlanta.  Josh Thole went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and Ike Davis drove in another.

Year: 2010; Game #11; Saturday;  Apr 17, NYM 2 @ STL; 1; boxscore; 20 innings;  WP: Rodriguez;  LP: Mather;  Save: Pelfrey; Time: 06:53; DAY; Attendance: 43,709; Record: 4-7; Standings: 5; Games up/behind: 4; W;

Baseball Reference: The Mets need 20 innings to beat the Cardinals, 2 - 1, in the longest game since this date in 2008. Jose Reyes drives in the winning run with a sacrifice fly after going 0 for 7 for the day in a game dominated by the pitchers. Both starters, Johan Santana for New York and Jaime Garcia for St. Louis, pitch 7 scoreless innings and the game is still scoreless after 17 frames, but the Cardinals eventually run out of able-bodied pitchers. 2B Felipe Lopez is sent out to the mound and pitches a scoreless 18th inning, while P Kyle Lohse goes out to play left field, but their teammate, OF Joe Mather, gives up a run in the top of the 19th. However, Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez gives the run right back, but the Mets scored again off Mather in the 20th. Mather is saddled with the loss, while Rodriguez gets the win as starter Mike Pelfrey comes out in the 21st to record the save for the Mets.

National Pastime.com: At Citi Field, Gary Sheffield becomes the 25th player to hit 500 career home runs. Joining Ty Cobb and Rusty Staub as the only major leaguers to homer as a teenager and as a forty year-old, the recently released Tiger DH becomes the first to reach the milestone as a pinch hitter and the first to accomplish the feat in a Mets uniform.

Baseball Reference: Gary Sheffield becomes the 25th member of the 500 home run club. He delivers a pinch-hit homer off the Brewers' Mitch Stetter in the 7th inning of a game at Citi Field, still in its first month of operation. It is Sheffield's first home run for the New York Mets, after having been released in spring training by the Detroit Tigers while sitting on 499 home runs. The Mets win the game, 5 - 4, on Luis Castillo's 9th inning two-out single.

Year: 2008; Game #14; Thursday;  Apr 17, NYM 3  Vs. WSN; 2; boxscore; 14 innings;  WP: Sosa;  LP: Hanrahan; Time: 04:45; NIGHT; Attendance: 47,785; Record: 8-6; Standings: 2; Games up/behind: 0.5; W-wo;

Mets bullpen pitched 7 scoreless innings after Nelson Figueroa went the first 7 and allowed just 2 runs on 3 hits, 1 HR, 2 walks, 7 Ks.

New York Post: Easley Does it.  "In the 14th, [Damion] Easley began the rally with a leadoff single...got to second...when Hanrahan threw a wild pitch...Hanrahan then tried to pick Easley off second, but he made a bad throw, and the peg went into left field as Easley took third...the Nationals walked both David Wright and Carlos Delgado intentionally to load the bases and force the Mets to pinch-hit for Sosa with their last remaining position player, catcher Brian Schneider. Hanrahan’s first pitch was wild, and Easley scored to end it."

Baseball Reference: At Shea Stadium, the Mets continue their strong start to the season with a 4 - 3 victory over Atlanta as Pedro Martinez collects his 200th win with relief help from Duaner Sanchez and Billy Wagner. Baseball Reference1967 - In the only game scheduled on this Monday evening, the New York Mets pound Pittsburgh, 9 - 6. Obscured amidst the offensive fireworks is the sorry plight of poor Jerry Buchek, a career backup infielder on the verge of his career year who's got to be wondering what he ever did to Pirate right fielder Roberto Clemente, likewise embarking on his own best-ever season. Clemente abuses Buchek on both sides of the ball, starting with his 2nd-inning snatch of his 400-footer to right center. Pirate beat writer Les Biederman reports: "Clemente went toward the exit gate for a startling back-handed stab of Buchek's long drive." Next inning, one of Roberto's patented one-hop rockets undresses the Met second baseman even as it dares him to return Clemente's favor. "Clemente slammed a vicious one-hop shot right at Buchek," writes Biederman, "but the second baseman dropped the ball as he set himself to throw."
