Mets Junkies: Mets bring back Johneshwy Fargas. “The Puerto Rico native batted .286/.286/.524 in just 7 games with the Mets. He showed speed and solid defense and a lot of energy in a time the Mets had a lot of issues with injuries.”

Mets.com: Mets pitching prospect Ziegler turning heads at camp. 19 year old Calvin Ziegler - “He’s impressive,” farm director Kevin Howard said. “Whenever you get a guy with that movement profile and that type of stuff, it’s exciting. And I think for being such a young guy, he’s got a lot of pitchability to go with that.”

MLB.com Mets: Each team's prospect looking to bounce back in '22.  For the Mets - Junior Santos, RHP: “Listed at 6-foot-7, the 20-year-old right-hander remains very much a tall mound of clay….The results weren’t all that promising last season (4.59 ERA, 79 strikeouts in 96 innings at Low-A)… he could be a Top 10 Mets prospect by season’s end.”

Andy Martino SNY.TV: MLB Players’ Association will fight for Pete Alonso’s service timeAlonso could lose untold millions, and see the course of his career forever altered, because of the lockout. “If this stoppage stretches 15 days into the regular season, Alonso will lose enough service to see his free agency pushed back to 2025”

SNY.TV: When will MLB lockout end? History can be a guide, but logic is out the window.

Rising Apple: Thursday Thought: 3 factors to consider when evaluating prospects. 1) Their age; 2) The position they play now, and the position they will play later. And 3) Their skillset;

Mike's Mets: Too Much of a Good Thing. Mike looks at the 2021 Mets with some ideas on how technology may help them in the future.

Yanks Go Yard: Max Scherzer puts Yankees on blast for manipulating competitive balance tax. “Max Scherzer called out Hal Steinbrenner and the Yankees for their spending. The Yankees, the most valuable MLB team worth ~$5 billion, have now made it a point to get under the CBT threshold three times since 2017. While they still remain among the highest payrolls, many (even Yankees fans!) would argue they aren’t spending commensurate with their profits and market size.”

AP Sports: MLB, union meet for 1 1/2 hours, discuss next step in talks

SNY.TV: MLB negotiators Dan Halem and Morgan Sword and MLBPA negotiators Bruce Meyer and Ian Penny met for an informal discussion on Thursday, according to multiple reports.

Kevin Kernan ballnine “Double Bogey”  Mr. Kernan has been dead-on this off season with outstanding columns on the Lockout and the current problems in Major League Baseball.  In this column he opines: “The owners do not care about April baseball because there is not a lot of money to be made there. I also said the owners would push the players to the wall, the players – being the competitors they are, and I know that from being around them all these decades – will dig in at this point and April will be lost… and maybe May, too”. (A must read).

SNY.TV: Sources: Four MLB owners were against league’s 'last and best' proposal — and this complicates a future compromise.  “On the call, which was previously unreported, MLB polled each owner to make sure it had the 23 votes required to support the proposal.”

Fast Philly Sports.com 4 Owners (Not the Phills) stand in way of MLB Settlement! “Evan Drellich of The Athletic reports that four owners were not in favor of MLB increasing the luxury tax increase to $220 million: Bob Castellini of the Reds, Chris Ilitch of the Tigers, Ken Kendrick of the Diamondbacks and Arte Moreno of the Angels. Drellich also writes that the owners proposed including player meal money in calculation of luxury tax, and that “irked” the players.”

USA Today: Dodgers' Trevor Bauer files defamation lawsuit against owner of Deadspin.  “Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher TrevorBauer has filed a defamation lawsuit against the owner of Deadspin — a case that accuses the sports commentary website of publishing false information about him and making an ‘unrelenting attack’ on him ‘with the purpose of humiliating him and ruining his baseball career.’"  Here is a copy of the filing.
