Good Morning. Happy Birthday C.J. Nitkowski. Players and Owners meet for 17 hours on Tuesday but no deal yet, Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer both named top 5 pitchers in league, and more videos from the Mets Minor league camp.

Fox Sports: Jacob deGrom, Corbin Burnes and Max Scherzer in the top five pitchers of 2022.
Deesha Thosar NY Daily News: Mookie Wilson, Bobby Valentine and Jeff Nelson sound off on MLB lockout: ‘It shouldn’t have gotten this far’. “It’s more of the same old same old,” Wilson said. “When you start pointing fingers, that’s the wrong thing. There’s always been a distrust between management and players. That’s not changing.”
Mike's Mets: With the Present on Hold, We Look to the Future. Mike looks at some of the Players in the Mets minor league camp like Francisco Alvarez and Calvin Ziegler.
WFAN: Tim Tebow 'grateful for the journey' of his Mets minor-league tenure.
At Faith and Fear in Flushing Greg Prince talks about the discussed 14-game playoff format in "The 162-Game Entrée".
Mets360: Tomas Nido could shake up the Mets catching corps. "In 2021 Nido was subpar as a hitter, putting up a .222/.261/.327 line...However, there were some extenuating circumstances. Nido was plagued by injuries to both his thumb and wrist, obviously those body components are critical to a batting swing. When he was relatively healthy, in May, he slashed .292/.340/.583 in 50 PA; the rest of the year, not so much."(Subscription required)

(New daily feature: actual baseball news) Mets would still like to add another hitter (preferably lefthanded but not necessarily) and also another starting pitcher. Steve Cohen wants to win. Uncertain if a new luxury tax arrangement (presuming deal gets done) could affect plans,

Over at Mets minor league camp I heard good things about Trey Cobb + Colin Holderman and how they looked in their sessions. Both upper minors arms to keep an eye on.

Mets fans were (rightfully) annoyed when the Mets played in Facebook/YouTube games, no SNY broadcast.

I can only imagine how it'll be received when the team is on Apple's streaming service, which costs money, again with no SNY broadcast. https://t.co/R2awRUBiQe

Slugged .500 in 20 games in the FCL last year and should make his full season debut this summer. Has struggled to stay on the field as a pro but still just 21. pic.twitter.com/kdsAT5Qgua
If MLB and the MLBPA *somehow* make a deal today, it would set up Max Scherzer making his Mets debut against the Nationals in Washington, D.C.

and SportSpyder NL East and MLB Links:
SNY.TV: "After more than 17 hours of negotiations on Tuesday and into Wednesday, the Players’ Association has requested to consult with their executive board before submitting their counterproposal to the league, according to SNY Insider Andy Martino. Martino also reports that "significant gaps" remain between the two sides."
MLB’s proposal, sources tell me and @Ken_Rosenthal:
— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) March 9, 2022
• Luxury tax thresholds: 230, 232, 236, 240, 242⁰
• Prearb pool: 40m, flat over time
• Pool counts against CBT (1.33m per team)
•Minimum salary: 700, 715, 730, 750, 770
(cont’d)
MLB’s proposed 3rd CBT surcharge would be $60 million above base level in a given year. As was the case in the last CBA, the 1st surcharge would be $20 miillion over, the 2nd $40 million over.
— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) March 9, 2022
Take MLB’s proposed 2022 as example:
Base: $230m
1st: $250m
2nd: $270m
New 3rd: $290m
On service time, with @Ken_Rosenthal:
— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) March 9, 2022
• Top 2 Rookie of Year vote getters can get a full year of service.
• A team that brings up a player for Opening Day can net 3 draft picks over time, one pick per year, if that player does well in voting
In MLB’s proposal, sources tell me and @Ken_Rosenthal, all rule changes MLB would want could be expedited, not just select ones like pitch clock, larger bases and shift. Can’t be expedited in season though — only in offseason
— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) March 9, 2022
• Draft lottery at 6 picks. MLB was at 5 previously.
"It's attempted to be a guard rail by other owners who don't like to see spending to the level that the Mets are spending"

At the moment it appears the sides are sticking with the 12-team postseason plan. The sides still haven’t been able to agree on a 14-team format as players seem to favor a 5-game initial series and ghost wins to give a nice advantage to division winners. MLB is against ghosts.
