Seymour tosses 4.0 one-hit innings in St. Lucie debut
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (April 12, 2022) – The St. Lucie Mets shut out the Clearwater Threshers 6-0 in the home opener at Clover Park on Tuesday.
The Mets scored all the runs they needed in a four-run first inning. Alex Ramirez led off the inning with a double and scored three batters later on a ground out. Jack-Thomas Wold ripped a RBI double for a 2-0 lead and a throwing error on the same play brought home another run.
Shervyen Newton capped the inning by ripping a RBI double to make it 4-0.
That was plenty of support for a stellar Mets pitching staff. Carson Seymour, the Mets sixth round draft pick last summer from Kansas State, made his St. Lucie debut by pitching 4.0 one-hit innings. Seymour walked two and struck out two while throwing 58 pitches.
Nathan Jones pitched the next two innings to get the win.
Levi David and Dylan Hall combined for the final three innings to clinch the shutout.
Ramirez went 2 for 3 and reached base four times. He's hit safely in all four games this season.
Stanley Consuegra also had two hits and extended his hitting streak to four game to begin the year.
The Mets (3-1) and Threshers (0-4) tangle again on Wednesday. First pitch at Clover Park is 6:10 p.m.
