PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (April 15, 2022) – The Clearwater Threshers won their first game of the season by edging the St. Lucie Mets 6-5 at Clover Park on Friday night. (Box Score).

Kendall Simmons broke a 3-3 tie with a towering three-run homer in the fifth inning to give the Threshers a 6-3 lead.

The Mets closed the gap to one run in the bottom of the fifth when Omar De Los Santos hit a solo home run and Alex Ramirez tripled and scored on a ground out.

However, the Mets were unable to tie the game despite putting runners on base in each of the remaining four innings. Tommy McCollum struck out De Los Santos to end the game with the tying run at third base.

Mike Vasil made his second start for the Mets. He allowed two runs on four hits over 4.0 innings in a no-decision.

Nick Zwack took the loss after giving up four runs in 0.2 innings.

Joshua Cornielly and Levi David combined to strike out nine and allow just one hit over the final 4.1 innings to keep the Mets within striking distance.

Ramirez, coming out of his first off day of the season, stayed red hot by going 2 for 4 with a triple and run. He has played six total games and has multiple hits in five of those games.

The Mets (5-2) and Threshers (1-6) battle again at Clover Park on Saturday. It's Marvel Super Hero™ Night! The Mets will wear special Dr. Strange jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit Voices for Children of Okeechobee and the Treasure Coast. Due to dry conditions there will be no postgame fireworks.
