Tampa up 4-0 in 7th inning, game will be resumed Sunday at noon
PRESS RELEASE: TAMPA, Fla. (May 21, 2022) – Saturday's game between the St. Lucie Mets and the Tampa Tarpons was suspended due to technical issues at Steinbrenner Field.
The Tarpons have a 4-0 lead through six innings. The teams took the field for the seventh inning but one of the stadium light banks would not turn on. The game will resume Sunday at noon and be played through nine innings. The teams will then play another nine-inning game to finish their six-game series.
Prior to the light outage, Jasson Dominguez hit a RBI double in the first inning and a run-scoring single in the second inning for a 2-0 Tampa lead.
Raimfer Salinas whacked a two-run double in the third inning to make it 4-0.
The damage was done against Mets starter Jaison Vilera who was tagged for four runs (three earned) and five hits over 2.1 innings. He walked four and struck out four.
Tampa starter Chandler Champlin was excellent, firing 5.0 scoreless innings on 88 pitches. He gave up just two singles and two walks while striking out nine to get the win.
Nathan Lavender pitched 2.2 scoreless innings of relief for the Mets.
