Late Rally Leads Ponies to Comeback Win against Baysox Saturday Night

BOWIE, MD – Brett Baty's game-tying three-run homer and Brandon Mcllwain's go-ahead grounds-rule double in a four-run eighth inning led the Binghamton Rumble Ponies to an 8-5 victory over the Bowie Baysox Saturday night at Prince George's Stadium.

Entering the eighth down 5-2, Matt Winaker walked to lead off the inning and Wyatt Young followed with a single off reliever Clayton McGinness. The next batter, Baty, on a 2-0 pitch crushed a three-run homer off the batters' eye in center field to tie the game at five. Later in the frame, Mcllwain, who was just transferred to Binghamton from Brooklyn Saturday, hit a grounds-rule double off Shelton Perkins (0-3) to left to bring home Hayden Senger from second and give Binghamton a 6-5 lead.

In the ninth, a wild pitch during Ronny Mauricio's at bat scored Winaker from third. Mauricio then hammered an RBI single to left to bring home Young and make it 8-5. Andrew Mitchell pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the frame for his third save of the year.

The Ponies took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Mauricio solo home run to right, his 11th of the season. Bowie responded with four runs in the bottom of the first off RHP Hunter Parsons.

Yeizo Campos was superb in middle relief allowing just one hit over four scoreless innings. Antonio Santos (1-1) allowed one run over two innings with no walks and three strikeouts earning the win.

The Ponies snapped a three-game skid and close out their series against the Baysox on Father's Day with first pitch at 1:05 PM and pregame coverage getting underway at 12:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and 92.1 FM.

Postgame Notes: Baty's home run, his sixth of the season, extended his hitting streak to ten games…Winaker and Young each scored two runs…Mauricio finished 2-5 with 2 RBI and a run scored, and now has a team leading 41 RBI on the season.
