Game Recap and Highlights: Binghamton Rumble Ponies Split Two with Somerset on Thursday

BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (18-29) split a doubleheader winning game one 5-3 and dropping game two 6-4 in eight innings against the Somerset Patriots (30-17) on Thursday evening at Mirabito Stadium.

Game Two: Patriots 6, Rumble Ponies 4

Somerset jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second on a Chad Bell homer to right field and Binghamton responded with a run of their own as Luke Ritter scored on a throwing error. The Ponies came back to tie the game at three on an RBI double by Quinn Brodey in the fifth and a Wyatt Young sacrifice fly in the sixth. Somerset added three in the top of the eighth off Ponies reliever Antonio Santos (0-1) with an RBI double from Brandon Lockridge and two-run double from Rodolfo Duran putting the Patriots ahead 6-3. Ponies starter Jose Chacin earned a no-decision pitching five and a third innings giving up five hits and three runs while walking two and striking out five. Lockridge finished with two RBI and Barrett Loeske (5-0) picked up the win pitching two innings giving up a hit and no runs while walking and striking out one.

Game One: Rumble Ponies 5, Patriots 3

Jesus Bastidas opened the scoring with a long home run to left field in the second off Ponies starter Jose Butto (1-0) but that would be one of just three hits the Patriots tallied against Butto. The right-hander pitched six innings giving up three hits and two earned runs while walking three and striking out 11. Somerset led 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth until Wyatt Young reached on a fielder's choice, Johneshwy Fargas and Francisco Alvarez reached on singles and Alvarez knocked in Young. Ronny Mauricio then launched a ball to deep right field off Somerset starter Will Warren (0-1), which gave the Ponies a 5-3 lead. Andrew Mitchell picked up the save pitching the seventh and striking out one.

The Ponies will continue their series against Somerset on Friday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 PM on NewsRadio 1290 WNBF and 92.1 FM.

POSTGAME NOTES: Mauricio leads the team with 29 RBI… Ritter scored three runs in the two games… Alvarez had three hits in the two games.
