PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (June 2, 2022) – The St. Lucie slugged their way to a 10-4 win over the Daytona Tortugas at Clover Park on Thursday night. (Box Score)
It was the eighth straight home victory for the Mets and their fourth consecutive victory overall. They also improved to 18-3 at home and 10-2 against Daytona this season.
Eight of the nine Mets in the lineup collected a hit and five batters had two-hit games. Justin Guerrera was 2 for 4 with two home runs. Jack-Thomas Wold and Junior Tilien also hit homers.
The Mets raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Omar De Los Santos and Carlos Dominguez hit back-to-back RBI singles off Daytona starter Arij Fransen (1-5).
Guerrera smashed a two-run homer 419 feet later in the first for a 4-0 lead. Tilien capped the inning with a single that plated Wold.
Guerrera and Wold hit back-to-back home runs off Ryan Cardona to open the third inning. Jose Rivera knocked a run-scoring single in the frame to make it 8-1.
Tilien mashed his fourth home run in three games in the fifth inning to put the Mets up 9-2. De Los Santos collected his second RBI with a single later in the inning.
Joel Diaz made his first home start and logged 3.2 innings. He allowed eight hits but only two runs in a no decision.
Five Mets relievers combined for excellent work over the final 5.1 innings. Franklin Sanchez (1-1) tossed 2.0 hitless and scoreless innings with four strikeouts to get the win.
Levi David struck out two in a scoreless eighth and Saul Gonzalez fanned the side in the ninth to end the game in a non-save situation.
The Mets (32-16) and Tortugas (19-29) play again Friday at Clover Park. It's School's Out Night. All K-12 students get in for free. It's also Bark in the Park. Bring your dog to the game for $3. Proceeds go to the Humane Society. Game time is 6:10 p.m.
