Game Recap and Highlights: P.B. Cardinals Use Long Ball to Beat St. Lucie Mets, 9-6

 


De Los Santos has monster game, finishes double shy of cycle 

JUPITER, Fla. (June 24, 2022) – The Palm Cardinals used the power of the long ball to complete a 9-6 comeback win over the St. Lucie Mets on Friday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. (Box Score)

Darlin Moquete turned a 4-3 deficit into a 6-4 Cardinals lead with a three-run homer off Joshua Cornielly in the sixth inning. Moquete entered the at-bat just 1 for 16 in the series. 

Sander Mora crushed a two-run homer off Reyson Santos in the seventh inning to increase the Cardinals lead to 8-4. 

For the second straight game the Mets got off to a roaring start. They strung together a walk and four consecutive hits in the first inning to jump on Bryan Pope for a 3-0 lead. Omar De Los Santos hit a two-run triple and Carlos Domginuez knocked a RBI single. 

Dominguez hit a solo home run in the fifth inning, his Florida State League leading 14th of the season, to open up a 4-1 Mets lead. 

The Cardinals scored the next eight runs. They got two back in the bottom of the fifth when Brady Whalen hit a RBI triple and Aaron McKeithen following with a run-scoring double against Mets starter Javier Atencio to make it 4-3. 

Atencio received a no-decision. He lasted 4.2 inning and was charged with three runs (two earned). He walked five and struck out seven. 

Cardinals reliever Carlos Guarate (3-3) got the win. He pitched the final four innings. 

De Los Santos hit a two-out, two-run homer in the ninth that traveled 422 feet. De Los Santos went 3 for 4 with a homer, triple, single and hit-by-pitch. He had four RBI and scored twice. 

The Mets have lost seven of their last eight and a season-high five straight games. Palm Beach has won 10 of 13. 

The Mets (40-26, 0-1) and Cardinals (31-34, 1-0) play the fifth game of their series at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Saturday. First pitch is 6:00 p.m.
