Ponies Stifle Reading Bats in Shutout Win on Pride Night
BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (26-41), spearheaded by a dominant pitching performance, defeated the Reading Fightin' Phils 2-0 on Pride Night at Mirabito Stadium.
Justin Lasko (2-1) highlighted the shutout win by pitching six strong innings giving up four hits and a walk while striking out two batters. Willy Taveras, Yeizo Campos and Dedniel Núñez each pitched an inning of relief giving up a combined two hits and no walks while striking out four.
Ronny Mauricio got the Ponies on the board in the fourth with a long solo shot onto the left centerfield train tracks putting Binghamton ahead 1-0. It was Mauricio's 12th homer of the season.
Carlos Cortes' double up against the right centerfield wall scoring Brett Baty in the sixth gave the Ponies a 2-0 lead. Cortes finished 2-3 and has an RBI in back-to-back games.
The Ponies will continue their six-game homestand against Reading on Saturday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM with pregame coverage beginning at 6:20 PM on NewsRadio 1290 WNBF and 92.1 FM.
